Hey Guys, again someone told me that this maybe came across a little bit like I was having a go at you all for not helping, which really wasn't my intention, I was just a bit pissed off at the school's attitude towards us and really trying impress upon everyone how much we will be needing help next season, and that the school isn't going to give us much unless we show we are getting more organised!

Chris and I didn't really ask for much help last year, and we certainly didn't expect any if we didn't ask!! I had no problems at all with anyone's contribution or efforts last season!! I felt we had a really good year on and off the pitch, I just want us to take it to the next level next season!

Help is needed

Hi All,

As some of you may or may not be aware we have struggled mightily with the school over the course of this season over many things. We have witnessed some staggeringly petty acts such as banning us from using the goals for training, to actually removing our playing pitch before the end of the season. Chris and I have been requested to meet with the principal and head of sport in the next few weeks to ‘dicuss a few issues’. I fully expect to hear something along the lines of ‘thanks for playing, now f*ck off’.

I firstly would like to say that this is coming only from the school itself, the old scholar’s association has given us nothing but support over the past few years, fighting successfully for us on a number of occasions. It may also suprise you to learn that one of our most vocal supporters has been the Old Scholars Footy club, we have defended our use of the oval for training, and offered significant financial help in our quest to put lights up on the soccer pitch, or down at Montrose so that we can have our own training area.

The negative attitudes from the school centre around our use of the soccer pitch, and football oval. It is their opinion that we put excess strain on these facilities without really giving much back to the greater college community. To some extent they are correct in this, over the past few years the club has not been particularly well run, and we have been very lucky to cover match fees, and purchase basic equipment like balls and playing strips, however I think the school believe we run on a much higher budget that we actually have. They see 30 odd blokes training on a Wednesday night, which is about half the playing roster of the Footy club, and so deduce that we must have about half their resources. They have an annual budget of around $100,000, we had our most financially successful season with $6,000.

Chris and I have done around 85% (with about 80% of that being done by Chris on his own) of the work running the club this season, and as such have started to turn the club around. We hope to build ourselves into the kind of organisation that can give the donations and support to the college community that I believe the school wish us to be. During our meeting with the principal I intend to point out that this is not a change that will happen instantly, and that we are being seriously hamstrung by their petty attempts to make this difficult for us, and that while that continues we will never be able to grow to the size we need to be a meaningful contributor.
In order for this to work, we really need to be able to show further progress on last year’s efforts.

CHRIS AND I CANNOT DO THIS BY OURSELVES.

In short we need to form a committee that meets regularly (I am thinking I will get a set of keys for the pavilion and we can just meet before/after the first training of every month) and consists of more than 2 active members and a few more names we chuck in whenever anyone looks too closely. We need at least 5-8 people to be involved in this. The people on this committee will need to fill a few roles. At the minimum we need:

Someone with experience and skills in website design/computers to initially revamp, and then maintain our section of the college website. It would be helpful if this person(s) also maintained our blog site.

An Old scholar to be our link with the Old Scholar’s Association. This will take up roughly 2 hours of your time 3-4 times a year in meetings, and also makes you the first contact point when the association has a request to make of us, which would then be brought back to committee.

One or Two people to be our link with the CSL, this involves a similar commitment of about 2 hours 3-4 times a year attending the CSL committee meetings.

Help with organising and promoting fundraising events/initiatives as well as seeking out sponsorship.

Help with organising closer ties with the college community (particularly with the first XI)

With these positions filled, and a regularly meeting committee in place I can make a strong argument for our continued use of college facilities, and I intend to argue, send letters, call upon every favour within the old scholar’s community I possess, and make full use of any and all of my father’s considerable contacts within the college community in order to give us a team to play for next season.

This is not something we can afford to ignore. You cannot just read this and hope that somebody else will do it. If you know you have the skills and/or the time we need you to step up and get involved. We also cannot wait long to get things started, we need people to start sticking their hand up in the next week or so.

OTHERWISE THERE WILL NOT BE AN OLD COLLEGIANS SOCCER CLUB NEXT SEASON.

It is as simple as that, get involved NOW or we cease to exist.

CSL Awards Night

Just a quick one lads, congratulations to Chris for taking out the 'A' grade top goalscorer award with 18 goals for the season, unfortunately this had to be a joint award with Ryan Stor of unley, the dude who stuck 7 past me when they beat us 9-1. Sorry Chris!!

We also had Timmy and Dunsy in the top 3 for the League best and fairest after 6 rounds of voting, but we fell away a little with Dunsy ending up 5th, which was a huge effort considering he only managed about half the season!

Congrats to Toby as well for coming 4th in the 'B' grade best and fairest, he was only 2 points behind top spot, and we had a couple of games that I know tobes played a blinder in that had no points recorded by the ref, count yourself unlucky tobias!!

Also thanks to Dain and Dave Ollerenshaw for coming along to the dinner, $50 for some decent food and all you can drink made for a pretty good night! Hopefully we get more out next year!

[Sat 12th Sep] Cup Semi v Pembroke

Scotch A 3 – 2 Pembroke A

Goals: Dave 2, Toby

A hot and windy day greated us for our semi final encounter with Pembroke. The previous few days had seen us lose our two first choice wingers, but saw the return of our defensive rock Dunsy. Thankfully, it looked like Pembroke had muzzled the one or two morons who had commentated so colourfully on our previous encounter. With the wind blowing directly from end to end it was always going to be a big factor. Ferg did the right thing and won the toss, giving us this early advantage. Despite us having the wind, Pembroke had the bulk of the possession for the start of the first half. It took an inspired formational change from Rev to bring us back into the game, with Dave scoring a cracker from a flicked on ball from Toby. For the remainder of the first half we played well, with few clear chances either way. The second half started in the best possible fashion, with a crossed ball to Chris coming free. Toby somehow managed to latch on to the errant ball, curly it into the top corner from the edge of the box. From that point on, Pembroke lifted a gear and started coming hard at us. The third goal of the game was another cracker, coming from a Pembroke midfielder. Al could do nothing but watch it sail into the top corner. Shortly after, Pembroke grabbed another, with a low shot beating Al at the near post. At the end of regular time it was 2-2 and the Scotchie boys had dropped their heads. Ferg once again won the toss and Pembroke looked the most likely in the first half of extra time. The second half saw some very tired Scotchies take the pitch, with Pembrokes fitness showing through. From nothing, a long ball was flicked on by Chris to find Toby running up the middle. A slide tackle from behind by Case saw us gain a free-kick on the very edge of the box. Dave stepped up and made no mistake with the free-kick. 3-2 Scotch, against the run of play. The last few minutes produced a few anxious moments for the Scotchies, with a seemingly legitimate penalty claim thankfully turned down by the ref. A great win, getting us into our second consecutive cup final. Thanks to all the players who all put in a massive effort, most of them for 120 minutes.

[Sat 13th June] Scotch vs Rostrevor

The B’s started the game in best possible fashion with a cross from Sam finding Toby at the corner of the 18yard box. The youngest of the Rogers clinically lobbed the pink-clad keeper to give the Scotchies the early advantage. The lead didn’t last long, with Rostrevor hitting back shortly after. Another defensive mistake, and Rostrevor were up 2-1. Despite being down, we were playing well and had numerous chances to level the score. Approaching the end of the first half, Sam whipped in a dangerous corner which found Paul at the back post. Paul calmly headed into the net as a well deserved equaliser. The second half started out very evenly, with both sides having good chances. With around 20minutes to go a Rostrevor player yelled something abusive at the ref who mistakenly thought it was Paul. Paul was issued our first red card for the season and begrudgingly left the pitch. Despite being a man down for the remainder of the match, the Scotchies matched if not bettered Rostrevor and were unlucky not to score another. Rostrevor, however, managed to take their chance to hand us another well contested defeat. Great chance against Uni whites next week to grab our first win of the season!

In stark contrast to the B’s great start, we were on the back foot with a well worked goal splitting our defence apart in the opening minute. Almost from the resulting kick-off, Rooney flicked on a ball which found Chris at the edge of the box who turned, shot and levelled the score. 2 goals in as many minutes and we knew it was going to be a high scoring game. With Dunsy out through injury, and Dan in after a few weeks absence, our defence was a little disjointed to start, but played solidly after the first 10minutes. A hard-driven freekick to the bottom corner saw Chris give us a 2-1 advantage heading into half time. The second half saw our defence under increased pressure and this resulted in two goals, leaving us one down at 3-2. We continued to press and had several good chances until Timmy danced clear and struck a firm shot which the keeper fumbled. The ball fell at Chris’ feet and he completed his hat-trick. Three all and both teams were pushing for the win, unfortunately the referee decided to award Rostrevor a penalty in the dying minutes. Haydn and their pint sized forward were contesting fairly for the ball when their striker fell over rather softly in the box. He proceeded to slot the penalty and secure Rostrevor the points. Al played a good game in goals despite the score line and Dave looked good on his debut for the Scotchies.

A replay of last years cup quarter final saw us up a against a very different looking Grads Red side. Due to an initial no-show, the game was started with a Grads Red referee, only to have the official referee show up several minutes into the game. Play continued and Grads Red looked good from the start, playing the ball well through the centre of the midfield. A couple of half chances went begging at either end until a free kick from Dain found Matty L on the left wing. Matty crossed the ball in low and the keeper fumbled into the path of a grateful Chris, who poked the ball home. From that point on, the Grads boys dropped their heads and the balance of play shifted to the Scotchies. Toby entered the game for an injured Dain and had an immediate impact in helping to control the midfield. A great through ball from Dunsy and a good switch of play saw Matty L and Andy T both get their names on the scoresheet with clinical finishes. Gammy was introduced for the final few minutes and also grabbed himself a goal with a well placed header off a perfect cross. 4-0 at the close, a result that closely mirrored last years 4-1 thrashing. Good to see the Grads boys have lost none of their charm, with their tubby elbow throwing midfielder no exception.

For the second time this season we had a near full squad available for selection with Rooney, Tully and newcomer Jarrod joining the B’s line-up. The first half was a fairly scrappy affair, with lots of attacking and very minimal defending by both teams. They scored first after a good save from Dave fell to the feet of one of their strikers. Not long after, Toby somehow managed to get a cross in from the left corner which flew straight to Sam at the 6 yard box. Sam controlled and finished brilliantly, giving him his first goal for the season. The remainder of the game saw numerous chances both ways, but where the Scotchies were unlucky, the Uni Blacks managed to convert their chances.

Scotch A 5 – 0 Uni Black A

Goals: Chris (2), Timmy, Mike, Jake

The A's came into the game on the back of two much needed wins and we were keen to get on top early. A flick on from Quinny found chris in the box who slammed a left footed volley through the keepers hands. Timmy followed this up with a powerful shot which found its way into the net via a hefty deflection. The remainder of the first half was more tightly contested, with Uni Black holding the ball well through the midfield and Ferg and Dain running well to limit their chances moving forward. The second half started evenly, until we scored a free kick with Dunsy jumping out of the way at the last second. The game was capped off by a great header from Jake and a amazing spinning shot from Mike that spun its way from the keepers hands over the goal line! 5-0 was a bit flattering in the end but it was great to get our third win in a row for the season.

Following on from a great performance against Immanuel last week, the B’s were keen to get their first win on the board for 2009. Several injuries/absences saw a revamped line-up taking on CBC in their intimidating purple livery. A great through ball saw Alasdair calmly finish in the bottom left corner to give us the early advantage. We continued to apply the pressure and were rewarded by a deflected shot from Gammy that rolled past their unfortunate keeper. Shortly after, Marty was brought down in the box and Gammy was charged with giving us an unprecedented 3-0 advantage. Gammy scored the penalty twice (the first being disallowed through a box infringement) and we had our 3-0 advantage. Sloppy defending from a corner saw CBC pull one back before half-time, but the boys were still positive heading into the second half. The second half saw another number of good opportunities that should have been taken by the Scotchies, but it was CBC who took their chance to peg it back to one goal. In the dying minutes, an unchallenged corner fell to a CBC player at the back post who bungled it in. 3-3. Overall a positive performance that left a bitter taste in the mouth after the great start. Chan had an extremely good game on the wing, with Gammy and Catton solid in central midfield.

Scotch A’s 4 – 2 CBC A’s
Goals: Chris (2), Timmy, Dain

After thumping Immanuel last week, the A’s wanted to start building some momentum with another good win. The game started well with Matty L bursting down the left and finding Timmy at the back post. A great diving header saw the keeper scrambling but unable to keep the ball from the back of the net. More pressure saw Chris with a chance that took a deflection and found its way into the bottom corner. 2 – 0 at half time and we were playing well. CBC came out strongly in the second half and an uncleared defensive corner saw them pull one back. At this point CBC were pressing for the equaliser and it was on the counter that Timmy’s sweeping cross found Chris at the back post who controlled and restored the 2 goal advantage. CBC once again lifted their intensity and were rewarded by a great header that found its way into the top corner. Dain was brought on in the dying minutes to inject some energy to the Scothies, and it worked. 30 seconds on and he had earned himself a yellow card, with one clueless CBC player insisting it was his second. Not much longer after that and Dain claimed his first goal for the season following another Timmy assist. Another good game for us and one that we needed to start clawing our way up the table.

After a much improved performance last week, the Scotchie boys were keen to record their first win of the season. A fairly even first half was marred by a defensive lapse which saw Immanuel take the lead. Half-time saw Mike and Chan introduced and they had an immediate impact. Throughout the second half we dominated, with several good chances going begging. Finally a great effort from Chan crashed off the bar and bounced to Mike at the edge of the box. Mike calmly lobbed the keeper at his far post, leveling the score. Immanuel hardly got a look in the second half and were very fortunate not to concede another as the Scotchies finished very strongly. A great performance boys, one that should give everyone lots of confidence heading into next week!

After seeing the B’s finish the game on top, we were keen to get our first win of the season. The first half was fairly even, with scant chances at either end. Our first goal came from a long throw from Matty L which Chris managed to flick back over the keeper. 1-0 at the break. An injury to Jack saw the long awaited return of Captain “Deflection” Ferguson, with Rooney coming off for Mike. The second half started well for the Scotchies and the Immanuel defence looked very ragged. Several well taken goals including a double for Timmy and a clinical finish by Mike to give him his second for the day, put the game out of the home sides reach. It was great to have a near full strength squad to choose from for a change and this was shown by the end result. Full credit to Al in goals who gave us our first clean sheet of the season and to Matty L and Andy T who were great down both of the wings.

[2nd May] Home vs Sacred Heart

A fantastic day for soccer greeted us for our first home game of the season that saw us taking on long-time rivals Sacred Heart. Al returned to the starting line-up and Niall took his place in goal. The first half was a pretty even affair, with an unfortunate own goal by Will and a great header giving Sacred Heart a 2-0 advantage heading into the break. The second half continued in much the same vane with Scotch having the better half. Sacred Heart grabbed another and a nice finish by Fernie saw Scotch pull one back, albeit after a ridiculous call by the linesman which the ref thankfully overruled. For the remainder of the match, we were on top and unlucky not to score at least one more. It was good to see Chan out for his first game of the season and also to see Al make it through a whole game without injury! A much improved performance boys, let’s get a win against Immanuel next week!

Scotch A's 3 - 4 Sacred Heart A's

Injuries and absences once again saw a weakened starting eleven taking on Sacred Heart A’s. Quinny gallantly agreed to start, and Haydos started on the bench despite still both being injured. This was made even worse with QC pulling out at the last minuted with a hamstring strain. With Ferg and Rooney both out, the captaincy fell to our defensive rock Dunsy. The game couldn’t have started better for the Scotchies, with a floated free kick by Erik falling to Timmy at the back post. Timmy proceeded to ram it in past the hapless keeper at the near post. Sacred Heart then equalised and Dan pulled up injured soon after. Going into the break we were on top and unlucky not to score again. What momentum we had was negated in the second half as Sacred Heart came out firing and scored two early goals. Following the restarting kickoff, Chris intercepted a defensive pass and managed to score at the far post. The game continued fairly evenly until Dunsy was called for a handball, even though the player challenging him for the ball was offside. Sacred Heart scored from the resulting free-kick and restored their two goal margin 2 - 4. We then picked up the intensity and our pressure was rewarded by a cracking long range effort by Matty L flew past their bewildered keeper. Despite several more good chances, we were unable to capitalise, ending in another disappointing loss that could easily have gone either way.

A wet and windy day greeted us at the home of Mercedes with our hastily erected tent providing little shelter as the rain was near horizontal! It was always going to be a tough day for the Scotchie boys with no less than 10 players out injured or unavailable. The game started well for us, with Dain coming close as the keeper came off his line and a desperate defender clattered into post while clearing. From that point it became pretty much one way traffic with Mercedes knocking in several goals before halftime. The second half continued in the same fashion apart from Chris missing a penalty. A tough game that showed glimpses of promise, lets bounce back with a big win against Sacred Heart next week.

The weather remarkably cleared for the duration of the A’s game and apart from one section of muddiness the pitch was still in pretty good condition. Once again, this was going to be a hard game with 6 players having to play the majority of both games. Despite this, we played well with a good chance early after some great wide play by Matty L, suggestions of a handball in the box were waved away by the referee. A slight defensive lapse resulted in the lone goal in the match to Mercedes. Chris had a couple of golden opportunities to pull one back, but couldn’t convert. The second half saw us push numbers forward in an attempt to grab an equaliser. We had a couple of free kicks in dangerous positions which were both wasted and Paul made some good saves as they hit back on the counter. All in all, a pretty even game that could have easily ended up as a draw.

FFSA 2nd Cup Round vs MetroStars

N.E. MetroStars 7 - 0 S.C.O.C.S.C.

Considering many SA football 'pundits' were predicting scores of 13+ to nil, this was a fantastic result against a semi-professional side many divisions above us. NE MetroStars are considered by many to be the top side in the state, and boast 3 ex-Adelaide United players, the former captain of the U/20 national side, and the 2008 National Youth League golden boot winner.

Metro came out firing from the whistle, moving the ball around beautifully on their extremely wide pitch. It was obvious they were looking to score a number of early goals and then coast into a comfortable win. Despite losing the frail and aged Al after only 20 minutes, Haydos, Dan, Dunsy and Jack's desperate, tenacious and tough defending saw Metro limited to snatched half-chances and poor long range efforts for much of the first half. Indeed Chris found himself with a golden opportunity (one of many!!) to put Scotch 1 up 30 mins into the first half with a one on one that he sent inches wide of the far post. Only one moment of slack marking saw Metro slot in a single goal before the break.

Rooney was replaced by Toby at the break, after a hardworking performance up front, trying to feed on scraps, and Rev gave his usual inspiring pep talk!!

After a bollocking from their coach that could be heard in Marden, Metro scored 2 quick goals before the Scotchie boys settled back into the match and again shut up shop for the next 30 minutes. Continued brilliance from the back four again limited Metro to poor shots, but it was about this time that our midfield and strikers began to believe that they could mix it with the big boys and we started to create a few scoring opportunities. Dain, Ferg, Chris, Toby, and Gammy worked tirelessly to win the ball in the midfield and provide the forwards with some service, but it was the pure class of Andy 'Timmy' Timmas that created three wonderful chances that unfortunately the experienced metro defence and keeper manged to put enough pressure on our forwards for indecision to rob us of a deserved goal!

Quinnny then came on for Dain and unfortunately got a corked thigh after only having played a few minutes, leaving us with only 10 players for the last 15-20 minutes. It was in this period that Metro's class and superior conditioning took it's toll as they fired in a quick four goals to end the match.

Special mention has to go to Dave 'The Wall' Lonardo for his inspired stint in goals today. Classy save followed classy save from a guy who has come a very long way since he first turned out in a Scotchie shirt. I think he suprised a lot of people today, and not just those from MetroStars. Keep it up Dave mate, use it as a platform to build from, you can hold your head high and be very proud of yourself!!

Sacred Heart B’s 2 – 9 Scotch A’s

A game that we were expected to win started in that fashion. 3 goals in the opening 30 minutes following some good wide play from both Matty and Andy T was a good start. Sacred Heart pulled one back before half time after a defensive lapse. Quinny made way for Dain in the second half and Sacred heart grabbed another on the counter, 3 – 2. From that point on, we dominated possession and that was reflected in the final score. A good performance all round, with Matty picking up an impressive 5 assists and thanks to Dain and Gammy for playing even though both weren’t 100%.

Uni White A’s 1 – 0 Scotch B’s

First off, one of the best performances the B’s have put in and a really great game to watch. A goal that was probably offside in the first half was the only goal in the match, although we came close on numerous occasions. We had the better of them in the second half hitting the post a couple of times. Probably our best chance was when Toby was through to a 1 on 1 with the keeper and was brought down from behind by a reckless challenge by the last man. Despite the rules stating otherwise, the referee awarded a yellow card rather than a red. Despite this, everyone played really well especially the hard running of Wade, Pandy, Catton and Will. Dave also had an excellent game in goal. A fantastic game that was marred by a shocking performance by a referee who may as well have pulled on a Uni white top.

Hi Guys!

It's that time again, season 2009 is just around the corner and we are aiming to make it Scotch's most successful season yet.

After a very impressive two years in charge, our charismatic coach Paps has decided that it is time for him to move on. I believe he is making a move interstate (sorry if i'm spreading lies Paps!), and so 2009 will see the return of Rev. Alec Rodgers as the senior squad coach.

2009 will also see a new structure at the club. We feel that we have grown to the point that the club needs to take on a much more professional and organised structure. To that end we have formed a commitee of myself, Chris, Paul, Josh and Dain that will be meeting once a month, and will be taking on the responsibilty of moving us forward. We in no way want to make this seem like we are running the club just within one group of mates, so anyone else out there that would like to stick their hand up and join this commitee, just get in touch with one of us and we'll snap you up.

We are currently in the process of organising new uniforms, our own dedicated training area with lights, the use of the school's fitness equipment and pool, getting changerooms that we don't have to share with the footy boys, and a great deal of sponsorship.

We also feel that the model for most successful clubs in the colleigiate league requires a club to have as many, stable, teams as possible. To this end we would like to encourage you all to bring out anyone you know, they don't have to be scotchies, of any ability to help us grow the club. We WILL provide a team for all these players to play in regularly, as we have lost a great many over the years, purely because they weren't getting a game.

We are also thinking about having a senior 'squad' of players who will be spread between the A and B divisions, with selection based on performance and training attendance. This squad will be required to attend TWO training sessions per week. With one most likely to take place in the MacBean centre on fitness equipment and in the hall until we get our own training area.

Pre-season will start on Wednesday January 7th, at the school at 6:30 pm, and will continue until the start of the season, with a second training to be introduced for those wanting to play in the senior squad soon after.

There will also be a 'sign-on' day in late febuary, $50 of your subs will be due by this date, and NO-ONE who has not paid this will play until they do. As the Collegiate League is now a part of FFSA, we have player regisration forms and fees to pay by March, and we cannot afford to pay this for you!

We also want to thank Paps, Johnnie and Alex Turner for all their hard work of the past few years, we wouldn't be in the position to make these changes without all the groundwork they have laid for us. Cheers Guys!

Season's Over

That's it... the season's over.

And with the A's taking out 2nd spot in both the league and the cup, it goes down as the most successful season yet for the Scotch OC Soccer Club.

Thanks go the the Arkaba, who sponsored us for the season, Paps and Munch, for organised the 2 teams week in and week out, and all the family, girlfriends and spectators who came out to support us.

Round 17

Scotch vs Uni White

Saturday 30th August 2008

Scotch 2-1 Uni White

It was a game that we needed to win, and with the hope that Uni Black could knock off the Mercedes boys to take the title down to the final day of the season. We did our bit but unfortunately Mercedes were too good on the day for Uni Black, wrapping up the title with a game to spare. Congratulations!

In our game we dominated the first half, and again could have easily added another couple to our talley to have the game out of reach by half time. This was something that we later very nearly regretted!! Dunsy snared our first goal about 15 minutes in following relentless pressure and a couple of dangerous set pieces that ultimately lead to Dunsy lashing a THUNDERBOLT aka "trickle" off of his left into the bottom corner. CRACKER!!! :o) Not too bad to get 7 goals so far between our two centre backs!! Dunsy's stunner was closely followed by some great play by Matty and Chris down the left, that had Chris cross in perfectly to let Rooney volley in from 10 yards. Great goal!! Matty and Maxie were both running havoc on the wings with great supply and link work again from Rooney, with our midfield and defence definitely controlling their direct opponents. Whatever was said at half time about continuing to show the intensity and pressure certainly went in one ear and out the other!!!

The second half was a different story to the first. The possession was definitely quite even, but Uni White created more chances than us, and we almost gave away the game comically, conceding two stupid penalties within 10 minutes. The first was tucked away very nicely by their inform striker followed by a "I never miss a penalty boys". Unfortunately this came round to bite him on the ass 10 minutes later as he blazed over the top to leave the score at 2-1, and to leave us very relieved.

We deserved the result with the overall run of the game for sure, but compliments to Uni White for showing the fight they did. Another tough match between the two teams.

B Grade

Scotch 0 -2 Uni White

Another game that we got nothing out of that we maybe should have considering the strength of our starting 11. Catton and Paul were looking strong and dangerous up front when they got the supply, with Chan and Dain looking very creative from the centre of the park when they weren't being over-run physically by much bigger opponents. A couple of silly defensive errors not being able to clear our lines properly lead to both goals, but definitely something we can learn from.

Overall a solid effort apart from the couple of mistakes. Next season we will strive to keep a stable squad for the most part of the season to allow much more sociality and consistency throughout the group.

Scotch vs Pembroke
Saturday 23rd August 2008

Scotch 4 - 2 Pembroke

Well again we kept to the tune of conceding a couple but at least scoring more!! After a very disappointing performance last week where we were only a shadow of our normal intensity and game play, it was pleasing to have such a dominating performance against a team that started the day equal on points.

The first half was a cagey affair with both sides changing blows mostly in the midfield, with only a couple of uninspiring chances falling to both teams. We were definitely getting on top by the end of the half and Pembroke looked glad when the whistle blew.

We carried this intensity and momentum into the 2nd half and started with a blaze of glory with two goals in the opening 15 minutes. Both went to Chrissa from midfield, the first a delicate cip into the top right corner from 10 yards, and the second a clinical and powerful strike across the keeper. Both were from great interchange play and from hard running from Chrissa to make position. Soon after this we fell asleep at the back post and conceded a clever header that looped over Gazza in goals from a long ball in. Welly then got our next two, both from wonderful through balls (especially the 2nd from Matty!!) on fast counter attacks that had him out pace two defenders and put it across the keeper clinically both times!! Nice to have you back in the team mate!

Over all a toughly fought match for both teams, but we made the most clean cut chances and the our dominating defensive and midfield pressure finally wore through Pembroke in the 2nd half.

Now all we need is to win against Uni White this week and have Uni Black to us a HUGE FAVOUR!!!! and knock off Mercedes to bring the league down to the final match of the season!! C'mon Uni Black!!!!!! :o)

Scotch 0 -6 Pembroke

The olde "20 minute curse" came back to haunt us again today, where for the majority of the game we were 1-0 down, until 5 goals in a 20 minute 2nd half patch obviously destroyed our chances!!!! Again very consistent performers were Baby James Catton, Quento and Paulie, but as a team we need to continue working on our communication and organisation especially. In the end though a very dominating performance by Pembroke, especially in the 2nd half, and a very good lesson for us on how to make the most of goal chances and goal pressure, as in the 1st half we had 3 definite goal chances that if we snagged on of them it may well have been a very different story!!

Scotch vs Unley
Saturday 16th August 2008

Scotch 2 - 3 Unley

In what was our most important game of the season so far, we were unfortunately very flat and considerably outplayed for the majority of the game. A win would have put us 6 pts above Unley and put them out of the title race, however the loss unfortunately puts us even on points and lower down the table on goals.

The first half saw Unley attack the game with incredible intensity and had us looking unorganised and flustered for atleast the first 30 minutes, especially through our midfield. Again our boggy pitch made it difficult to play continuous posessional football for both teams, but ironically aided Unley in their 1st goal as the ball skidded awkwardly past two of our defenders into the path of the Unley forward who to his credit finished very neatly. It took until the last five seconds of the half for us to have a real threat, that luckily had Rooney finishing brilliantly lobbing the keeper from 20 yards following a fortuitous long ball from Johnny. 1-1 at the break.

The 2nd half had us atleast looking more competitive and threatening, controlling probably 25minutes of the half and putting some pressure on the Unley defense. With 10 minutes to go it was 2-2, following a penalty to Unley then a scrappy Scotch goal following a free kick goal mouth scramble. In the closing minutes both teams were pushing and fighting hard, and it was unfortunate (for us!!) that Unley had the knock-out blow when a tepid shot somehow found the back of the net from about 15 yards. On the whole though Unley showed much more organisation and intensity over the 90 minutes and created the majority of chances. It was disappointing that we unfortunately were very flat and played far from our normal standard as a team, with our most positive performers being Rooney and Eirik.

One positive from the game was that we could play so poorly and still be close to getting a result. Chin up though!! Three wins and a result to go our way and we are still in with a big shout!!

B Grade
Scotch 1 -4 Unley

At 1-1 at the half and following several great chances and having rode our luck quite well, we were hoping that a shock result may be on the cards if we could hold it together for the whole 90 minutes. As the score reads, obviously we couldn't!! We were over run in the final 25 minutes by a fitter and much more experienced team that proved their worth for being at the top of the table.

An honorable mention to Catton for a great individual performance, and a very big welcome back to some original Scotch OCSC founders Haydos and Marcus to the team following a long absence. Welcome back boys!!!

Scotch 4 - 1 Grads Red

Overall a very dominating performance all over the park and a scoreline that could have been at least double if not for some amazing saves from the Red's keeper, who by far was their best player on the day. Following a frustrating year with injuries for Rooney, he rebounded very nicely with his return to the team with a hatrick, and Johnny grabbed our final goal from the penalty spot. The game was very open and played in a very physical manner, with the incredibly boggy and muddy Scotch pitch not helping either team.

Matty ran riot down the wing all day and the Red's had no answer for his pace with the ball, and was rewarded with the assists for all three of Rooney's goals. Maxie was very similar on the right. Our midfield trio was dominant all day and worked tirelessly and kept our control on the game, and our defensive line was very strong and organised and conceded only via a penalty following an unfortunate slip into a Red's attacker in the mud.

It was good to get in the goals again and get a more even team effort following the disappointing league loss last week, and it was important to get Chrissa and Rooney back in the team this week. Another positive was the way we kept our work ethic up (except for a 5 minute patch where we started shooting from 40 yards!!) and kept cool heads when there were some terrible tackles going in and a lot of agro being shown by the Red's. With Welly, Brent, Danny and Paps still to come back in to the squad, it will be an important boost with a very tough run in to the end of the league in front of us. Nice game boys, very dominating win!!!!!

Scotch vs Immanuel

For some reason Immanuel continue to be our bogey team, with two draws and two losses against them in the past two seasons. Credit to them where deserved though, they made the most of their limited chances and we were not clinical enough to find the back of the net.

From the beginning of the day we knew and spoke about the fact it was going to be scrappy game due to the boggy pitch and our game history, as well as being forced into a few personnel changes due to injuries people away. On top of this two major injuries in the opening 15 minutes didn't help, but we still should have done better. Our nemesis of this year happened again where we hit the post, brought several great saves from the keeper and had a couple excellent chances in the opening 10 minutes but were unable to convert, then with Immanuel's first attack they went forward and scored. The remainder of the game had us creating most of the shooting, but not with our normal composure or conviction, and it was one of those days where it just wouldn't go in with goal line clearences, two major penalty claims denied and the woodwork getting a good workout. Credit though to Immanuels defensive effort getting numbers behind the ball, and to then catch us on the break with about 15 minutes to go as we were pushing hard. A big thankyou to Toby and Chan for playing a majority of the game when forced due to our injuries following a full game in the B's.

The result definitely brings us back to reality after winning 7 in a row and will be a good wake up call leading into the cup quarter finals and the final run in for the league. Very exciting with the number of teams still in with a good chance!!

B Grade
Scoch 2- 0 Immanuel

Awesome result and thoroughly deserved boys!!! As we said when we get most of the first choice players on the pitch in the same day we have a very competitive team, and most pleasing of all was to see the fight we had as a team.

The first half on the whole was fairly even, with Scotch having definitely the majority of the opening 20 minutes and Immanuel fighting back well to have the majority of the following 20 minutes. Our first goal came following a cracking run and shot from Catton that was well saved, with the ball falling to Marty, who coolly slotted it into the open net for his second for the year. We then gained a lot of confidence from that and continued to have the majority of chances in a game that was very open. It was pleasing to see that we didn't have our usual 20minutes lapse of concentration and concede a couple!! :o) The game was put to rest with a minute to play, when a penalty was awarded for deliberate hand ball on the line (very stiff to get sent off considering there was only a minute to go!!!) with Chan slotting the penalty to make it 2-0!!! Yeah!!!!!

Well deserved guys, and its always a little easier to enjoy your saturday arvo's when you get on the winners sheet again!!

Again we found a way to make it hard for ourselves, but as they say, a wins a win as long as you score more times than you opposition!! And must I say it was an ugly win at that! :o)

CBC were a much tougher opponent than expected over the 90 minutes and were physical and fought hard all day and made the most of their chances. We were also lucky on a couple of occasions, when if it wasn't for the quick reflexes of Gazza in goals we could have been under even more scoring pressure.

With a different lineup to last week forced upon us we took a little too long to get comfortable, but when we did (2nd half!!) we looked much more in control and could easily have put a few more goals on the board as we squandered several golden chances. We were incredibly flat and unusually unorganized as a whole group in the first half and CBC made the most of this going 1-0 up then 2-1, keeping us chasing for the 1st 45 minutes to find equalising goals. It was 2-2 at the break.

When we got our normal organization and work ethic back we flowed better and the front 3 began to look very menacing again. Fergie and Chrissa worked incredibly hard all day in the middle, with Ferg creating many of our forward thrusts and offering of the ball continuously, and often unrewarded. Brent had much more impact on the game when he joined them in the middle of the park and troubled the keeper with several cracking shots. Our defence was much more on top in the 2nd half when they got themselves sorted, and let nothing get through them.

Overall an important win to keep us on top, and a good hard scruffy game to get out under our belt.

Scotch 1 - 3 CBC

At 1-1 with 20 minutes to go it was very disappointing to end up loosing by three. I do however commend the fight that we continued to show and chances we continued to create, however we did not quite have the sharpness to finish enough of them off. Whether it is a fitness issue, a mental issue or an attitude issue, we continue to go to sleep for 15 to 20 minute periods in each game which ends up being our downfall. With a few more A's players returning to the top team in the next couple of weeks, this should strengthen up the B's considerably and if we can keep this team consistent for the remaining 5 rounds we should see some results.

Keep the positiveness, support and sociality a major factor at trainings and off of the pitch, and especially on the pitch between each other. There is no room for negativeness, especially in a social club like ours, so for a couple select boys who have shown this and a lack of support for their peers there is no room for this. Results will change when we get our consistency with team selection happening.

With the top 6 teams all playing each other in this round, I'm sure every team realised the importance of taking maximum points from their respective clashes, and deservedly we did. It was a game that was probably played out as many would expect, with ROCSC trying to play pretty possessional soccer, and Scotch playing their very direct, quick paced and offensive style to their forward strengths. Overall, ROCSC would have lead the possession stats, but we definitely had the majority and most frequent scoring chances, and if it wasn't for their keeper who pulled off several riper quick-reaction saves, would have seen a couple more go into their net.

The game started very evenly, with most of the play for the opening 15 minutes going end to end through the midfield, with no definitive chances. We then went 1-0 up when Welly broke free with his pace and cracked a low shot to the keepers right, who saved very well, but fortunately for us the ball fell to our new recruit Brenton Ilicic who had an easy tap in with his right. We then went 2-0 up 15 minutes later when Welly, following a previous one-on-one and close shot with the keeper, had another one-on-one following some excellent midfield work that split the ROCSC defence and finished low into the corner from just inside the box. We had several more excellent chances, expecially with a couple of tough shots from Brent and Fergie Ferg, with Matty getting more into the game causing havoc down the left. We were also lucky probably not to concede with ROCSC elusive forward Dom putting a close chance narrowly over the bar. 2-0 at the break.

The 2nd half was played very similar to the 1st, with Scotch playing direct and ROCSC trying more to hold posession, but not looking overly dangerous. Welly had a couple more good chances, along with a smashing long drive from Ferg, that all had the keeper saving very well. Paps was bizarrely shown two yellows for the same passage of play and sent-off with 15 minutes remaining that meant we were down to ten with ROCSC pushing for the game. Immediately following this the ref blew for a dubious penalty against us, and Dom made the most of it to bring ROCSC back to within a goal. We adjusted well following this with a couple of personnel changes, and saw out the game very comfortably.

Geordie, Johnny, Dunsy and Danny were very organised and controlled the back with plenty of conviction again. Fergie and Chrissa ran their hearts out and dominated our play in the middle of the park. Brent was exceptional as our central striker playing a little deeper as a link man, with both Matty and Welly looking dangerous and too much for the ROCSC full-backs to handle all day with damaging runs into the box and plenty of shots between them.

Well done boys, an excellent team effort again with consistency shown all over the ground. And with Unley knocking off Merc's, it means we go top!!

At this stage of the season, we are paying the price for so many changes week in week out, and hence are lacking some midfield and forward leaders that are consistently going to contribute and make an impact.

In a game that we were obviously expected to win, it was a little closer by the end than we had anticipated and that it really should have been. For a second week in a row we dominated possession, especially in the 1st half, but were unable to make the most of our many excellent chances. The day we do make the most of them we will really trouble the scorers. With Westminster's 1st attack about 20 minutes in, following constant goal pressure from us, they went forward and scored a cracker from the far right into the rear corner. Great goal and it gave our keeper absolutely no chance. We then scored within a minute after the restart with a neat little finish from Welly and another just before halftime following a nice strike by Fergie Ferg. 2-1 at the break, and the second half saw no inspiring soccer by either team and no more goals. Westminster played their game plan quite well with 5 to six in the midfield getting plenty of numbers behind the ball for the entire 90 minutes. This frustrated our 3 midfielders especially and meant most of the game was played over the midfield to our wide players. Both Welly and Matty again had great games and worked tirelessly without a lot of reward. Rooney was his dangerous self and again provided great link work. I felt our defensive line, that was very different today with plenty of forced changes, performed very well and consistently considering the wind and playing the 2nd half into the sun. Gazza was very strong both on and off of his line in goals again, and when called upon two separate occasions with great Westminster chances, was very strong.

Overall a frustrating day game-play wise as we struggled to ever get into our normal quick-passing rhythm especially through the midfield, but of course you will take winning ugly any day.

Thanks to Westminster for a hard fought day, and best of luck to the remainder of their Div 3 season.

For a long time this fixture has always been a bit of a 'Derby' match for both teams, ever since the tight tussles back in A2's. And again, as with every contest, the score was close and the game was very willing. To be honest we had the majority of the game, especially in the first half, and were desperately unlucky not to have several goals to compliment the early possession that we had. However we found ourselves 1-0 down after a cross that was deflected from a defensive header, with the ball falling to the strikers foot several yards from the line, who slotted it home. 5 minutes later Johnny stepped up to put away his 2nd penalty for the year to make it 1-1 following a handball in the box. Sacred Heart were physical and hard working as ever, and played over their midfield with long balls from the defence for the majority of the game. We got our second with a nice flowing move from Gazza's throwout that ended up finding Matty who is in a rich vein of scoring form, and he cooly slotted home across the keeper.

Overall it was a solid performance considering we had several forced changes to the lineup this week and due to injuries during the game also. The defense was solid as normal, our midfield was dominating, and we created ample chances up front to score plenty more. With Uni White doing some great work and holding on to beat Merc's 1-0, we are now 2pts from top.

As with the A's, it was a very close match on the whole, and a match that if we took even a third of our chances we had in the 1st half the game would have been over by half time. However it was 1-1 at the break, and to Sacred Hearts credit the fought well in the second half and played the better soccer leading up to the final whistle. A very disappointing result again for us, especially considering we had so many definite chances.

It was a game that we were expecting to win and all in all we did our job very convincingly. We had all of the ball and several brilliant chances that we wasted in the opening 20 minutes that could have put the game out of reach already, but we only snagged one of those chances when Fergie cleverly rounded both their left full back and keeper to easily slot the ball into the net. Uni black quite quickly then caught us on the break with one of their first attacks to make it 1-1 with 25 minutes gone. Dunsy repayed the favour Chrissa gave him last week by putting in a wonderful ball from the left following a corner that Chris slotted in with his head. 2-1 at the break. The second half saw us go 3-1 up with 15 minutes gone when Matty scored a cracker volley from 20 yards, that makes two this year!!!!! He then got his second 10 minutes later when some excellent work down the right from Fergie and a square ball across the 6yard box left an easy tap in for Matty. With 10 minutes to go we had an unfortunate own-goal deflected header (thanks Geordie!!!) to give Uni Black their second. Considering Rooney missed 3 or 4 chances he would normally bury, and Welly miscalculating a couple close chances he has been slotting regularly, the game could have been a much bigger blow-out. But to Uni Blacks credit they hung in there and used their well-known pace and individual skill to good effect at times. Overall Matty was unstoppable down the left all day, Eirik was dominant as holding midfielder, Fergie and Chrissa were always involved and looking dangerous, and Gazza pulled out some great punches from dangerous crosses that otherwise could have been more threatening.

Disappointingly, and probably more due to the fact the ref failed to blow his whistle on many obvious and quite rough fouls that would normally see yellow cards, the game came to a forced end through abandonment with two minutes to play. Following another unnecessary and cynical foul on Chrissa, there were a some words said and a few pushes given by both teams as we were frustrated at the regularity of the unpunished poor fouls against us. We are not shirting any of the blame for the situation to this point, but this then sadly escalated when the Uni Black captain got very physical and grabbed one of our players in a headlock and Uni Black fans from the sideline ran on getting involved for no reason. A disappointing was to end the game considering most of it was played in good spirit, and a scene that Uni Black, and especially their captain, should certainly not be proud of.

Aaargh!! Another disappointing result for us!!! And another game that we started very slowly in again being very flustered and rushed to go forward with the ball. Understandably it didn't help having several players become doubtful for a start throughout the morning due to illness and injury, and meaning several early changes were forced upon us through the 1st half due to guys not being able to continue. To Uni Blacks credit they played the much better soccer for the most part, and it wasn't until the last 20 minutes when we were 2-0 down that we had control of possession and started to create several dangerous chances.

Brilliant effort boys!! Nothing less than we deserved with the overall control we had on the game and the number of chances that we created. Overall a very balanced and intense performance by all 14 players. Our main aim now is definitely to maintain this form and ensure we can get some consistency with our performances as we know we can account for anyone on our day.

Mercedes had a younger and slightly different lineup to their dominating team of last year, but still one we obviously didn't think we would be able to score four goals past. In the 1st 20 minutes we had all of the play and came out firing and this gave us lots of confidence, but two solitary quick breaks coupled with some open defending and clinical finishing we were suddenly 2-0 down. We continued to attack well with our 4-3-3 and had a couple of very good chances cleared from the line, before some lovely work and ball in from the left from Chrissa found Dunsy unmarked to bullet a header in at the near post. What happened a few minutes after this kept us in the game and made us continue our push, when Gazza pulled out a great penalty save against Forster just before half time to keep it at 2-1. Things could have been even better in the last 5 minutes of the half when Dunsy hit the post from another header and Chrissa has a clever shot cleared off of the line.

The second half was played with as much if not more intensity than the 1st from both teams, and again saw us miss several golden chances to tie the game. We did get the equaliser when a long shot from Fergie, that Dunsy (who is meant to be a centre back remember!! :o) ) cleverly deflected past the wrong-footed keeper to make it 2-2. Mercedes then made us pay for some sloppy defending on the left that left us out numbered in the middle and scored to make it 2-3 with 20 minutes to play. To our credit no one dropped their head and continued to push, spurred on by our number of previous missed chances and control of the midfield especially. We then drew level with 15minutes to play following some nice build up play through Welly on the right who found Chrissa at the top of the box, who turned well and slotted the ball low past the keeper to his right. 3-3 and the game was there for the taking! In a fast paced last 10 minutes from both teams, it was Chrissa that was the difference for us again, who perfectly smacked a 22yard free kick on his left into the top left corner leaving the keeper no chance. What an awesome way to claim the lead!! Nice work mate!! The last 5 minutes was tense as we dropped five back into the midfield to hold on, with Mercedes bombing the ball forward at any stage to put us under pressure in the dying seconds. To our credit we kept our concentration and held on for a very important win for us.

It was a very even performance all over the pitch for us and everyone played their part in getting their result. Apart from a couple of early lapses in the beginning and a clumsy penalty give-away our defence was strong, especially in the air. Gazza was strong in goals all day with several important saves, none more so than the penalty to keep us in the game. Our midfield had the better out of the two teams that was highlighted by Chrissa's two goals and an assist. We looked very dangerous all day up front with Matty and Welly running at the defense all day, and with Rooney doing some incredible link work and being an option and a massive impact for us all day.

Unfortunately the start of the day wasn't as happy and inspiring as the end of it!! At 1-0 down at half time we definitely still looked in the match, especially considering we had 3 clear-cut chances in the opening 15 minutes that could have made things very different! It was unfortunately a 15minute patch lack of concentration halfway through the 2nd half again that was our undoing, where 3 quick goals were conceded and put the game clearly out of our reach. Again it was very hard with another 6 changes from last week but for the majority of the game I thought we did quite well and were unlucky not to get on the board in the first half especially like I said.

It was good to get back on the winners list in the league after dropping vital points in the last two matches. The game was set up early with impressive full pitch pressure being employed, especially by Matty, Rooney and Welly up front, that created the opening goal. Great effort boys. Welly cooly slotted the ball past the keeper to add another to his growing tally. Nice work mate! Everyone continued to follow the brilliant work effort and we had the ball flowing very quickly and effectively, and were unlucky not to get another couple, especially with Mattys that somehow flashed past the post and Welly pulling an awesome save out of the keeper low to his right to keep the White's in the game. Our midfield and defensive dominance meant we did not looked very troubled all day, with Gazza not having to complete a single save. It was good to see Gabe get through his normal array of testing tackles!! :o) and I think this week Geordie can do some work on his set pieces!! Congrats to Risky for having his 1st A's game and doing impressively well.

Here's to a run starting in the league for us no boys, continuing with Mercedes next week.

Well I'm a little baffled today how again we didn't get some points out of the game! Admittedly we had a slow first 20 minutes that lead to the goal, but other than that we had an even share of possession and definitely the better of the 2nd half chances that we unfortunately could not take advantage from, both due to poor finishing and some 'interesting' decisions made by the ref, that to be fair had both teams wondering if we were playing netball or soccer. All I can say is that we will keep working towards getting some wins, but other than that continue supporting each other and staying positive.

After a very convincing start and leading 2-1 with 20 minutes gone on the 2nd half, it was very disappointing to be over-run and beaten. Compliments to ROC's defensive strength and their speed up font. Again we showed periods throughout the game where we dominated but couldn't increase our score on the board with several shots flashing inches wide. Good belief shown by the bulk of the group to continue fighting the entire 2nd half, and it now gives three games in the next three weeks against the other top 4 teams where we can get back to our selfless work ethic and cement our spot in the top two.

A convincing performance overall and a game that we controlled and were definitely the dominant team in. It was always going to be a little difficult game against a team that is growing in confidence with some improved results of late, and the fact that we also had four players unavailable and another couple playing that were very unwell, so thanks for the effort! Two very nice strikes from Chrissa and Welly from good team build up cemented the result.

Overall a very disappointing result for the boys, more so for the way we played and not so much for the result. Credit to Immanuel for continuing to pressure us all over the pitch for the whole 90 minutes. We seemed to be flat for the majority of the game and did not utilize our normal game plan with our wide players. Positive notes were our defensive shape, and we were unlucky to suffer an own goal from a deflected defensive header with 10 minutes to play. Goals went to a cooly slotted penalty from captain Johnny, and a cracker from Welly, nice work boys!!! Hopefully Dunsy has a speedy recovery from a knee injury.

Well, I think there were couple reasons for the result. Again a half dozen changes to the line-up didn't help, along with another sloppy 20 minute patch in the middle of the game. However, a good debut was had to Martin and Mugel. Thanks for staying patient for your 1st game guys, you both played very well!! At this stage we still feel that we need to choose the team on merit of who attends training week to week and who has paid subs, but we will discuss this very soon if we continue to suffer big results like this. Credit to Immanuel for definitely showing a very strong performance over the entire game, and for some last gasp defending in the 1st 15 minutes when we had several good chances. A massive thankyou to Deano who won't be playing any more matches for us now as he plans to move back over to the USA again. Thanks for all your efforts mate, everyone appreciates it and respects you on-field attitude!! (and swearing on the weekend!! :o)

A very dominant performance overall, so well done again boys. 3-0 after the 1st 20 minutes put the game beyond doubt early. Over the course of the game it was very pleasing that we again were always in control at the back, dominated the midfield and looked dangerous going forward every time. To be fair we could easily have had a few more (no mention of Chris' misses!! haha), but to CBC's credit they continued to push the entire game and snagged a scrappy goal late in the game. Goal of the day went to a 25 yard SSCCRREEAAMMEERRRR!!! volley from young Matty from out on the left, sweet effort mate! Max, Chris and Matty were instrumental up front all day and either scored or set up each of the goals brilliantly. Top day's work. Defense was intense as always and initiated plays all day, with the midfield staying very organised again. Game plan working well, so nice work.

First win for the year...and about time!! :o) A very good effort considering the changes that were made from last week. Thank you to everyone for staying motivated and positive with the rotation of players and weekly changes that I realise can become very unsettling and frustrating. It was really a game of contrasting halves, with Scotch having the better of the 1st leading 2-0 at half time, and CBC definitely having the majority of possession and chances in the 2nd half and all in all were a little unlucky not to score again, but credit due to our defenders infighting for every last inch. Our two goals were of great quality and team play that the boys should be happy about.
Great goal and debut from Mr Marty, and finally Catton got on the score sheet with a lovely finish for the 1st.

1. Year 5/6 soccer team. Training is Wednesday 2:30- 3:30 (Scotch College Senior School). Games are Saturday morning, times vary from 8:30- 10:30.

1. Year 3/4 Soccer team. Training is Wednesday 2:30- 3:30 (Scotch College Senior School). Games are Friday 3:30- 4:30 (At Montrose Oval Junior School).

All in all a very convincing win all over the park. Big positives were our midfield dominance and structure, our physical presence, and our defensive effectiveness both on the ground and in the air, especially during the final 25 minutes when we gave away an unfortunate penalty and were down to 10 men and needed to shuffle the line-up. Our use of our wide two players and the work effort and dominance of Max and Chrissa was 1st class, as was the impact of Welly upfront. Ravo was strong between the sticks and our defensive line were very disciplined and effective on the ball. Impressive and seamless effort by the boys off of the bench also. Goals went to a deflected cracker from Fergie, from the head of Dunsy following a dazzling run from the back, and a blistering run from Welly with a great finish. Fantastic effort overall and a convincing win.

Overall a wonderful effort by our young team and was a flattering result to Unley, but it was defenitely a game we did not deserve to get any points from. A very close first half was then blown out of the water when Unley scored 3 goals in 10 minutes at the start of the 2nd half and the game was then very much up hill. It was very pleasing that for the final 30 minutes we did re-group and began to pass the ball around more effectively.

A disappointing result considering the game was very even for the 90 minutes. A stand-out performance again from Matty Duns, with Maxie and Dan Adams also doing very well down the left. We were unfortunately over-run too often in the midfield that in the end was the difference. A great positive was the 1st team debut of Matty and Chan who did very well off of the bench. Thanks also to Al for keeping unexpectedly! With a few more boys back next week hopefully we can re-capture our new offensive style.

Same story as last week.... had plenty of excellent chances but couldn't put one away! Very evenly matched game overall but SH took their chances much better. Is a little hard to find some consistency already with so many players changing throughout the team, but we will have to deal with this. Good to have Rooney get some km's through his leg and to see Patty get through a couple of full games without injury.

Generally very convincing performance with excellent attacking flair. A little disappointing to concede 4 goals considering we were 4-0 up within 25 minutes. Plenty to work on but a great way to kick off the year!! Notable mentions to Welly for smashing in 4 goals before being subbed in the 1st half, to Chris for grabbing a double and running havoc down the left, and to Matty Duns for being so dominant at the back.

Oh what could have been hey boys!! Overall a wonderful performance and strides above where we were at the end of last year. We just need to learn how to finish!! Great games especially had by Pana, Ricky and Patty.

Considerable work has been done over the off-season to begin preparing us for a very successful 2008 Collegiate League season both on and off of the pitch, including an effort to bring in a breed of new sponsors and more players to compliment our already growing teams. Success breeds success, and that's what we are after this year as we try to ensure the club becomes much more established!!

15th September 2007 - Round 22: Scotch vs Immanuel

It was a bit of a dissapointing day result wise for us today for different reasons for both teams. The B's somehow managed to squander a 3-0 lead from the 1st half to end up drawing, and the A's again managed to totally dominate a game but be unable to find the back of the net with a heap of golden chances going begging once again. Chin up though! :o)

The B's opened with a blaze of glory and were 3-0 up within the 1st 30 minutes, following two great thunderbolt strikes from Matty Lynagh, and a 30 yard stunner from Frenchie Fabs. Unfortunately we lost our way a little in the 2nd half, and following a penalty and two lucky goals it was all square.

Boys a massive thankyou to you all for the efforts this year though!! It didn't help only oranising the team a week before the start of the season and only half the team having played outdoor football before, and we have been under the pump all year against better teams and you have improved weekly without doubt and can be very proud of what you have achieved team wise and for the spirit that has remained throughout the team for the entire year. I hadn't experienced anything like that before. With a good preseason under our belt and a few extra players next year will be considerably more successful result wise.

Well done and thankyou!

Thanks also to all of the A's boys, with such an unsure line-up for most of the season and weekly changes plus people playing with injury, thankyou for the effort you have put in the the spirit that has been among us for the year. Lets be honest, we didin't do the best but it was a bloody fun year!! Apart from our 1st five games (1 draw, 4 losses = 1 point!!) we did do very well and climbed our way up the table week by week from the bottom and should be proud.

Today was a little dissapointing dominating and having possession like we did but again lacking that final touch into goal, which to be honest we should have been able to do with the amount of chances we had!! :o) Immanuel though are great fighters and have great spirit and their season of improvement probably deserved them a win also so well done to them. It was a physically tough match played in fair spirits (mostly!) and was a good season finiser, apart from the fact we lost! :o) Thankyou to the Immanuel boys for their hospitality after the game with BBQ and drinks, it was very appreciated!

Thankyou for the year fellas..... much more to offer next year with more sponsorship, more school support, better club structure, a very decent pre-season and a few new talented faces, so I hope all of you are out there for 2008!!!!

8th September 2007 - Round 21: Scotch vs Grads Red

A1 Summary

All in all a very convincing win and one that puts us another place higher on the table, so well done boys! We started the game well and after about 15 minues of good pssession Fergie let one fly from 25 yards out on the left and watched it fly perfectly into the top right corner. Awesome strike!! And it didn't even take a deflection mate!! :o) Soon after that Max was brought down in the box, but Paps misses the penalty with a good save by the keeper. 2nd penalty miss!!! :o) I guess I wont be taking any more!! haha We then did put the second on the board following some great play down the left by Max, who after a nice interplay of passes with Paps and Paul got the ball to Eirik, who turned sharply in the box and slammed the ball past the keeper at his near post. Lovely team goal! We then went to sleep all over the park for the last 10 minutes of the half, and Grads Red snuck one back following a quick counter attack that left us out numbered at the back. 2-1 at the break.

Again we had the bulk of the chances and possession in the second half, with Paul, Fergie, Eirik, Clop and Paps all having several good shots that werre narrowly wide or well saved. We went 3-1 when Geordie got a lovely long ball out to Max, put in a nice cross from the right that was cleared tentatively to the top left corner of the box to Paps, who cut inside and slotted it home across the keeper. The fourth came following more pressure, where a nice through ball to Eirik had him calmly slot the ball around the keeper who was rushing off of his line. 4-1.

The back four looked solid as usual today, with Mitris and Eric providing plenty of run, and John and Geordie starting the majority of plays while being very solid and tough at the same time. Fergie and Clop both had dominating games in the middle of the park, and were unlucky not to get more goals betwen them, and both played well despite carrying injuries. Paul was in the game all day up front but couldn't quite get ont the end of one, but played the provider role very well. Max was again very creative and attacking out wide, with Eirik topping off a neat little game with two goals and an assist!! Well done boys.

B1 Summary

In a game we were exeecting to do well from, we unfortunalely never really got into it and couldn't find the back of the net again following several great chances!!! :o) The game was at 1-0 for a long time from the 1st into the 2nd half, but then a flurry of late goals killed the game for us. Credit goes to Grads Red for a good display however.

Firstly, a massive thankyou to everyone that came out to be part of the Family and Friends day for Scotch, we all really appreciated the number of people that made the effort to come and support the boys. Apart from the results on the pitch, it was a great day and I hope everyone enjoyed the food, drinks and music!! It was awesome to have so many people out watching. Please feel welcome any stage to come out and watch the boys and show your support again.

A1 Summary

Everyone that watched the game would agree that we definitely shouldn't have lost the match and Pembroke were very lucky to win, however they are not 4th for no reason. Scotch definitely held the majority of posession and had easily the bulk of scoring chances over the course of the day but were denied by the frame a couple of times and by some unlucky finishing in general. We went down 1-0 about 30 minutes in following holding all of the play, when a long free kick into the box took a wicked bounce off of the hard surface and wrong footed Dietmar in goals, who saw the ball bounce over his shoulder in to the back of the net. The game stayed at 1-0 for the majority of the match until Paps found the net with a long range effort about 20 minutes from time that beat the keeoper to his right. With the scores at 1-1 Fergie hit the bar, Clop had a diving header that somehow didn't go in, Waz squandered a 1 on 1 with the keeper, Paps hit the post and Paul had a couple of chanmces that just didn't sit right for him. What could have been!! :o) Following all of this and from another free kick at the other end that was well kept out by Dietmar, the ball unfortunately fell to the feet of a Pembroke player who tapped it in from a few yards to make it 2-1.

Dietmar was strong again, Geordie was chopped and changed several times at the back but had a very good, solid game, Eirik was creative as usual, with Clop and Fergie controlling the ball in the middle of the park with out much haassle for most of the game. Chris unfortunately sustained what looks like a serious aknle injury early into the first half and this will leave a big hole in our defence to cover if he can't play the remaining games. Paul was in the mix all day up front but unfortunately couldn't quite find that killer punch to finish today. Max had a great game out wide and was a large contributer to the dominance our midfield had.

Our next two games against Grads Red and Immanuel are must wins if we are to grab another spot on the ladder. Well done today though, it was an enjoyable game on a great day, and all I can say is that the score could have been much different!

B1 Summary

Today we were beaten quite convincingly by a quicker and more experienced team, although we showed great fight as usual and created some good chances we unfortunately couldn't make the most of. It didn't make it easy missing our two regular centrebacks and our two regular centre midfielders through injury and other commitments, so credit needs to go to everyone for the display you put on. Notable mentions need to go to Nathan Pana for the work he has done since only coming out a few weeks ago and being thrown in the deeop end!!! Wellk done mate! And to Jassa and Josh for their continual leadership and commitment to the boys when the going gets tough and in setting up creative plays. It was also great to see Alastair finally get through a full game without injury!!! :o)

Fantasy Premier League
Back on the telly!!!!!

As everyone is aware the English Premier League season has kicked off again, and it's great to see so many boys put in a team for the Fantasy EPL!!! The sledging has began already!! Going to be some big bragging rights at the end of it!!! :o)

Don't worry, Geordie wont be up the top for long.... can't keep getting that much luck!!!

As soon as you can (within the next 2 weeks!!!) please give your $10 to Paps or Johnny who can then put it with the rest of the club funds and sort out a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for the end of the Premier League season!!

18th August 2007 - Round 18: Scotch vs PAC

A1 Summary

In a game that we were very confident of winning, it ended up being a dissapointing day with a genereally uninspiring draw considering our recent form and results. The most interesting part of the first half was the fact we were all down each others throat!! Oh well, I guess the positive out of that was the fact we were frustrated at how we were playing and trying to gee each other up. Something that should never happen again though!!

We had the bulk of posession of the first 30 minutes and managed to score a nice goal through a well constructed in-direct free kick from inside the box when Paps found a nice diagonal run to the back post from Max for him to tap in and make it 1-0. The rest of the half had Scotch still holding most of the posession but not being able to utilise it properly, giving it away on the most part trying to attack too quickly. The PAC goal come about 20 minutes from the half with an unfortunate long clearance that rebounded off of the chest of the PAC forward who trundled in and slotted it around Dietmar. 1-1.

We played a lot more clinical in the 2nd half, and although the game remained scrappy at times, we held more of the posession again and had all of the main scoring opportunities but unfortunately couldn't find the back of the net from several chances that should have been taken. The highlight of the day would have been Clop's left foot curler from about 30 yards on a tight angle that somehow went the wrong side of the upright as the keeper had been stranded off his line.

The back four again looked very strong and were generally untroubled for the majority of the game, and again were the catalyst for our attacking play. Thanks to Clop and Jordan for both playing with injuries and somehow making it through!!

Dietmar only had a couple of tough saves to make throughout the game, but did them both very well and again was strong between the sticks. Mitris was very effective out wide until he went off injured with a knee that we hope will pull up OK following an awkward challenge, and Max was again a good workhorse and put in some dangerous balls from the right. Clop and Ferge were consistent in the middle, but we all struggled to find that final decisive ball to make the difference.

Most votes go however to the boys at the back for their continual strength indefence and their ability to start the play with accurate balls.

B1 Summary

The game started very promising again for the B's, coming out of the blocks flying again for the 3rd week in a row, and having all of the early possession. The first goal came from a lovely free kick from the right from Al after Will had been fouled making another good run down the right, with Fabs getting his pretty French noggen onto the end of it and heading it home!! 1-0. PAC scored the next two goals, both from some sloppy defending but also from some continual pressure on our back line that failed to clear its line on several dangerous occasions. Our most positive asopect of the past few weeks is our ability to now hold posession of the ball for much longer and more controlled, and the fact we are creating many chances each game and hence putting a lot more goals away. The only dissapointing thiong of today was the fact we were quite soft in a lot of tackles and let PAC have it a little easy in our defensive box a couple of times. Well done though to keep fighting and to snatch a late equaliser, one that was very deserved, with Big Bad Bussling Chrissy Rogers coming off the bench to help out and again getting his name on the score sheeet, this time with a very nice goal from the left inside the box on a tight angle!! Cheers mate!!

Big announcement that our new B's captain and bright green armband (thanks Chris!!) has gone to Mr Joshie "Munch" Millard for the remainder of the season, and I'm sure everyone would agree that no-one deserves it more. An inspirational leader on the pitch, well done mate!!

11th August 2007 - Round 17: Scotch v Sacred Heart

A1 Summary

Well well well, another win on the trot for the Scotchie boys hey!! In a good rivalry that has always been close faught both through the A2's for previous years and the A1's this year, the Scotch and Sacred Heart derby was again a close faught encounter, with Scotch coming out on top this time!

Baard made his return into the team this week up front and played well considering his less than perfect knee, with Patty, Jordan and Clop all out from last week with injury. The last month has seen us hit hard again with injury, now totalling 14 boys! Thanks to Chris again for DOMINATING in both games again, and for those that are playing out of position and doing extra workload with such a thin squad.

Anyway, the game got off to an even start, with possession shared and chances sparce early on a pitch that was finally not muddy!! Mitris scored the first about 20minutes into the first half following a wonderful long diagonal ball from Fergie from the left, that found Mitris about 22 yards out on a slight angle. He took a touch then hit the ball very sweetly on the half volley low and hard to the keepers left, who was beaten with the pace from distance and had the ball skid in below his arms. Great strike mate! 10 minutes later following a good period of pressure from scotch from out wide with Max and Mitris, Sacred Heart caught us on the break and played the ball sweetly down the centre then out to the left around the back of our defence which they are very good at as part of thier game plan, then finished the move with a sweet strike across Dietmar into the bottom far corner. 1-1. It stayed like that until half time, after Dietmar had pulled off a couple of great saves again from a short distance, and both Sacred Heart and Scotch missing a couple of easier chances they normally may score but put over the bar, but with Sacred Heart genreally having the best of the final 20 minutes with Scotch looking unorganised at times which was very frustrating. The 2nd half began the same as the first with even posession and a physically strong game from both teams, with a couple of yellow cards being shown. We came out playing a lot better in the 2nd half following a formation change with paul going up front, and getting Max and Mitris into the game a lot more, with Paps and Fergie now having more space in the middle to try control the game from. Fabs came on for Mitris about 20 minutes into the half to add some extra run out wide and did well. The back four looked much stronger and more stable in the 2nd half and were back to their more dominant selves. Our 2nd goal came about 10 minutes from time following a quick throuw from Geordie to Paps, who played a long ball to Paul down the middle, who ended up finishing very smartly from the left side of the goals with the outside of his right foot from close range on a tight angle following a nice little one-two with Baard. 2-1!!! The goal came following about 10 minutes of strong Sacred heart pressure where we held out well and stayed disciplined, with Scotch having several close chances before that from both open play and a few free kicks we should have done better with.

Overall it was an even game and one we should be estatic to get a result from considering it puts us very close to Sacred heart and Uni White now with a game in hand and several games coming up we should get results from. Well done for the fighting in the 2nd half and for the attitude and work rate change shown by everyone in the 2nd half. Another generally very solid performance shown by the back four starting most of the good plays going forward and for Chris especially with some effective forward runs and some very important hard challenges at crucial times of the game, a disciplined running effort from Mitris, Max and Fabs out wide with some great balls in throughout the 2nd half especially that forms the crux of our dangerous plays, Fergie again being hard working and creative in the middle of the park, with Baard and Paul creating chances up front with some grat running off of the ball and instinctive plays. Well done to Paul for the hard work throughout the game changeing positions and coming up with the winner!!

B1 Summary

Two in a row fellas!!! Moving up the table now! Well done and most thoroughly deserved. In a generally convincing performance where we should have definitely put away many more chances especially in the opening 30 imnutes (no names mentioned Mr Nathan Pana!!!! haha :o) against a Sacred Heart team that was significantly undermanned with several new faces on the pitch. The final few weeks have been improving very well for us with a more confident team, especially now we are beginning to put away more goals. This is also considering today we again had several key players missing with injury, but with the crux of the team over the last few weeks still being there. The goal came about half way through the 2nd half from a penalty that was thumped away high into the net from the confident frenchman Mr Fabian!! Never looked like missing!

Games of note go to Joshie and Quent especially for controlling the back line with authority and some good touches throughout the game, to Dayne for his creativity up front, Fabs for his dominance on the left, Chris for his dominance in the middle and for playing two games, and to Stewie for his classic shirt front of the opposition while still being in possession of the ball!!! :o)

4th August 2007 - Round 15: Scotch vs Uni White

Firstly, thanks to all that made it to Pint 'n' Parmie Saturday night, it was a great effort to get so many boys at the Ed, and raised $120 towards players trip.

Just a few rumours that were going around that I have to clarify:

1. Yes, Max did eat a full-fat parmie!!
2. Even though he thinks so, Fergie is NOT KICKASS!!
3. Yes, the mighty Crows did beat the shitty Power.
4. Yes, all those that went into town and not the bay are not cool people. They are uncool.
5. Sunderland has always, and will always, be a better team than Newcastle.

A1: Scotch 2 - 0 Uni White
B1: Scotch 4 - 1 Uni White

A1 Summary

The game was probably one of our most even defensive efforts and tackling efforts which was very pleasing. We played with a 4-5-1 formation as Baard was unavailable, and Ravo had another start in goals as Dietmar was unwell. Ravo had easily his best game for the club, being exceptional off of his line and very confident. Well done mate.

The 1st goal came about 15 minutes after kick-off, after we had started very well with several shots on goal and most of the midfield possession. The ball was hoisted high into the box from the left, where it fell into the centre of the 18 yard box mud patch ( following rain and 3 games previous to this one today) between Jordan and two defenders. Both defenders lost their footing and went to ground and the keeper remained on his line, to allow Joprdan to turn and play the ball low to the keepers right into the back of the net. 1-0! We had to wait a while for the 2nd goal, that came about 15 minutes from time, following a shot from Paul that was hand balled deliberately on the line. Somehow though the defender failed to get either a red or a yellow!!?? Paps finished the penalty to make it 2-0.

Overall it was a very even, tough effort throughout the whole team, especially defensively. On top of that we created many chances, and controlled probably the fair proportion on the possession. Fergie continued his consistent form with another great game, Clop was both hard working and creative in the middle, Max and Mitris put in some great balls following attacking runs out wide and defended very well also, Jordan was an amazing workhorse again today in the lone role upfront with quality touches throughout the game. Our back four was marshalled again by Johnny who cleaned everything up very well, with Chris, Geordie and Eirik never really looking troubled and being the beginning of nearly all attacking moves. Patty, Paul and Fabs all changed the game when they came on and were involved immediately which was very pleasing.

Just to mention, we were lucky in the 2nd half when we gave away a penalty (one of many baffling decisions that was given by the referee for both teams), that was fortunately missed by Uni White. Thanks to Geordie for his "Psyche Out" skills!!

B1 Summary

Well, let me say that we just didn't look like loosing today!!! The first half an hour was all Scotch, with Stewie hitting the bar and several other near misses. We then went down 1-0 following a own goal from a corner that unfortunately wrong footed Dave. Thanks Nathan!!!!!!! haha Following that point again it was all Scotch. Stuart finally got on the score sheet following a great work ethic in the 1st half with a nice finish from about 10 yards following a good save from a long range effort. 1-1 at half time. In the 2nd half Chris scored a belter about 5 minutes in following a great run through midfield with a solid strike from just inside the box high to the keepers left. This was followed up by a great little solo effort for Mr "Twinkle Toes" Lars who slotted home, and a clinical finish from Paul late in the game from a breaking run through midfield.

Most pleasing aspects of the game was the level of talk, support and self belief today, and the overall defensive effort. Because of this, we broke very well and created a lot of chances. Well done boys, another win this week against Sacred Heart now!! The team will continue to grow in strength, that is very exciting, now we have more players coming out to the A's, so stay focussed and get another couple of wins before the year is out.

Thank very much to Chris and Paul who put in excellent efforts to play both B's and A's during the day, it was very appreciated by the boys!! It was also great to welcome back Fabs following injury, who had a great game on the left.

In a game that we approached only thinking that we should get a win from we came away with a disappointing draw! In fact a win was no more than we deserved as we had that many scoring chances but alas CBCs unbeatable keeper kept us at bay with a string of unbelievable blocks and stops!

We started the game welcoming back Goal machine Baard, a very tired and jet-lagged Eirik and a debut from our new American friend Clop. A back 3 of Eirik, John and Geordie was behind Paps, Fergie, Mitris, Max and Clop with Baard and Paul up front, and as ever the ever impressive Dietmar in goal. First things first, Dietmar had only a few things to do but what he did was impressive the flying fingertip save to put the ball over was brilliant, even if you did throw it to the CBC player! Everyone played a solid game, the back 3 never looked in trouble. Fergie had one of his thunderbolts from distance brilliantly saved. Paul was denied by the keeper again Paps had two shots turned away when a goal seemed destined. Clop had a great one-on-one blocked and Jordan hit the bar. What could we do to score????

Thanks to Eirik for his efforts after only getting back into Adelaide at 11am from Norway after spending 14hrs overnight in Melbourne Airport and to Chris for giving us 20mins even though he was ill!

Paul had his best game so far for us and Maxy and Mitris ran and ran all day up and down the wings. A great all round performance from the boys, a solid defence from Geordie and Eirik playing out of positions and a great debut from a man to match Maxy's title of Mr Health Club, Clop!!!

Yeeeehoooooooooooooo!!! Well done fellas!!!! Thoroughly deserved win with our recent form!

The game was played at Rostrevor's ground who probably have the best pitch in the league at the moment. It was always going to be a very tough game and in all fairness a game we were not expected to get points from. However, we have been continuing to improve rapidly and we got some rewards for this today.

We changed our line-up to a 5-4-1, because although we have been beginning to score more goals we have conceded far too many, so we brought Johnny in from right back to play as a sweeper, and it worked very well.

The game started quite evenly with both teams having equal share of the ball, with Scotch having the first few chances with Paps and Fergie having a couple of shots from distance that didn't worry the keeper. Surprisingly Rostrevor for the bulk of the half looked quite slow and poor in possession. Due to playing only Fergie and Paps in the middle, most of our play came out of defence from the full backs to the wide midfielders which is a little different for us, but something we have been working towards. A lot of this was started by good awareness and throwing from Dietmar in goals. We had several excellent passages of play like this, with some exceptional touches between Geordie or Max out wide, with Jordan up front. Some great one-two's from Jordan had both Max and Geordie open down the wings looking very dangerous in the first half, both having a couple of shots and some great crosses we should have made more from. Jordan's work rate up front as the lone striker for the entire game was exceptional, offering every time we needed him too and working his diagonal runs much better. All you need is a couple more goals now!! The breakthrough came about 25 minutes into the first half when Fergie (yes again!!!) had one of his trademark runs and shot from about 30 yards (maybe 50 yards even!!?? :o) on his right. He hit the shot very sweetly and the ball flew into the back of the onion bag over the top of the keeper with some trademark Fergie Ferg swerve and dip. Another blinder mate!! Within 10 minutes after this, we got a big stroke of luck (that I feel we deserved because we have been under the pump so much this year and were controlling the game at this point). Our re-incarnated strapping centre-back (to his annoyance still :o) Chrissy Rogers stepped up to try and beat Fergie with a audaciously strike (otherwise known as a clearance) from inside his own half, that took a slight deflection (passed back to the keeper by a defender!!!) that wrong-footed the keeper who watched the ball bounce over his head once again!!! Nice work Chrissa!!!! I'll put that one down as a goal for you! :o) So 2-0 at half time.

The majority of the second half was dominated by Rostrevor who were pushing for a result and playing the way we expected them to in the first half. They were putting lots of pressure on us from out wide especially and had several very good chances on top of the two goals they pulled back on around the 60 and 75 minute mark from two crosses to make it 2-2. We struggled for most of the 2nd half to hold meaningful possession, but did however have several effective breaks and counter attacks as the game opened up considerably with Rostrevor throwing lots of numbers forward, that we could have done more with. Paul was changed for Mitris at left back to add a little more pace to our defence to counter a couple of changes Rostrevor made at half time, and Dayne came on into the centre of the park and replaced Fergie who was suffering still from illness.

Our third goal came in the last couple minutes of the game from a quick counter attack out of defence with a ball that found Dayne just forward of the centre circle, who fought very hard to fend off a couple of challenges and somehow get a ball out square to Paps who did everything he could to stumble over the ball and leave it behind him, before taking it forward and slotting it along the ground with the outside of his foot around the keeper who was rushing out off of his line. GOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3-2!!!!!!!!!!!!

A great effort all round boys, a result well deserved as we continue to improve week by week. Very pleasing aspects of the game were the way we stayed disciplined defensively, with a line-up that again has boys playing out of position.

Several notable mentions need to be made: Firstly to Dietmar who kept us in the game yet again with a myriad of awesome saves and body blocks, especially in the 2nd half when we were under the pump. Thanks mate!! Chris and Quent in the centre of defence did their job all day very effectively by stopping most dangerous turns by the Rostrevor big-men up front. Thanks guys, its a very unselfish position and I know you don't like it Chris!! :o) All of our full backs throughout the day Patty, Paul and Mitris were great defensively with much improved zonal work (that finally is beginning to work a little better!!) and setting up of the plays. Johnny, I thought you had a fantastic game at sweeper, not just with distributing the ball from the back, but mainly with your defensive cover and "one percenters" covering behind the back four all game and with your instructional talk that is very important. Geordie and Max both has brilliant attacking games in the first half and tough defensive games in the 2nd half. We can see the difference when we play wide like we did in the 1st half and get the ball to these two guys as soon as possible. Geordie I reckon it was your best game this year for the club.

Well done boys!!! Got a bye this week, then some must win games to continue moving up the table!!! ......... The Scotchie boys are jumping!!!!!.........

Bad luck boys!! Unfortunately we were never in the game today and were outplayed by a better and far more experienced opposition. Try to all learn something from the game, especially the need for midfielders to drop back quicker to help the defence, and how the defence need to close players a LOT quicker to nullify shots!! Again, continue to keep our heads up, we are definitely playing HEAPS better than early in the season, and we have several games after the bye against teams that we should get a lot closer to now we have improved. Thankyou for all the enthusiasm and mateship that continues considering we have been hammered a few times!

Sorry again boys for the very late and very short match reports.....still having computer troubles at home so this is another rush job from work!!!

A1 Summary

Well, let me start by saying that I don't think the score line is not a totally accurate indication of the game!! Mercedes definitely outplayed us and deserved a win, but the 6-1 score line was certainly flattering to them! We welcomed back into the A's side week Mr Scotch Old Scholar himself Quentino Croucho to play at centre-half with Chris. It was a bit of a baptism of fire for you sorry mate!! :o)

We started the game very poorly by conceding 3 goals in the opening 15 minutes, two from very poor defending as a team and the other from an unnecessary penalty. From this point on however, once we had finally woken-up, the game was a lot more even. Mercedes had the bulk of the attacking chances throughout the game with Dietmar getting another good work-out in goals, with midfield possession quite evenly shared throughout the match with Scotch definitely holding their own and looking dangerous throughout. Things may have been a little different if we had made the most of a couple of good chances, one in the opening minute when Jordan had a 1-on-1 with their keeper who pulled off a great save, a couple of other poorly-timed shots from Paps and Fergie from inside the box that should have been better, and a footy tackle on Paps that surely MUST!!!??? :o) have been inside the box that was given as a free kick to be taken actually on the 18 yard line!!! and the player went unpunished somehow!! Anyway the free kick was very poor in the end anyway!!! :o)

The highlight of the day came halfway into the 2nd half when out of the sleeting rain and hurricane winds, Mr Nick Ferguson (yes... Fergie himself, not his butler!!!!) ran onto a bouncing ball from about 25 yards and sent a stunning strike off of the right hand post, onto the keeper then into the net!!!! Very nice goal mate, sweetly struck!!

We have been continuing to improve weekly (except for this week!!) but we are our own worst enemy due to having such an unsettled line-up due to such regularly changing personnel. we have Rostrevor this week who we can definitely take points from with the team we have, then a run of teams following our bye we definitely need to take 3 points from if we are to look as respectable in the league by the end of the season as we should be. Keep working hard and keep our social side going as strong as it has been also!!!!

B1 Summary

We welcomed back our B's coach and player Mr Al "I'm a hamstring calamity"Rodgers, following weeks out with.... you guessed it.... hamstring problems!! :o) Was a tough game to come back to!! We were unfortunately outplayed throughout the whole match today by a very talented and experienced Mercedes B's side. We also weren't helped by several key players missing, another two being forced off with injury at half time and others carrying injuries for the majority of the game!! But it was very pleasing how much fight we continued to show for our team-mates playing next to us and were always looking to create more scoring chances, and had a couple that we should have taken!!

30th June 2007 - Round 11: Scotch vs Unley

Apologies for not getting the write-up done sooner!! My hard drive crashed on my computer last week and I havn't got it back yet, so I'm doing this from work and it will unfortunately be very quick!!

A thankyou needs to go to Mr Dannyboy Adams for his help this year with both his on field performances and his setting up of the website. He has now left us all as we cry, as he is and his lovely girlfriend are jet setting around the world!! Cheers buddy!!! We also forgot to welcome back his younger (and less handsome!!) bro Maxie who returned back from Norway last week prior to the PAC game. Welcome back mate!

A1: Scotch 0 - 2 Unley
B1: Scotch 2 - 3 Unley

A1 Summary

After a very promising first 30 minutes where we easily could have grabbed a goal from one of a couple decent chances, we went 1-0 down following some poor zonal positional play down our left that ended up in a shot being rifled past Dietmar from about 12 yards out. The game stayed at 1-0 for its majority, with Scotch probably having the majority of control of the 1st half, and Unley controlling the 2nd half. It was a tough day in the midfield with probably the boggiest pitch so far this year underfoot in the middle third. Unley's second goal came late in the 2nd half following a rude bounce just in front of Dietmar that caused the ball to bounce off of him into the path of an Unley striker to tap home from a few yards. Unfortunate!! 2-0. We had a couple of half chances and free kicks in the second half we couldn't make the most of that could have made things interesting.

Overall a pleasing effort, considering we had 12 boys out all together for the day and several guys had to play 2 games, with many boys playing out of preferred positions. Our match play is continuing to improve weekly and it is the first game we havn't scored in for a while. Watch out Mercedes this week!

B1 Summary

What could have been hey!!?? After leading 2-0 at half time against the top team in the league unfortunately we went down 3-2 after 3 late goals from Unley in the final 20 minutes of the game. Our first goal came from a Unley keeper blunder from a pass back as he swung wildly and missed the ball that rolled into the back of the net. The next goal come 40minutes into the first half following a good move down the right that had the ball played into the box where a foul occurred and where new super-signing from AFL footy Matty "Macho Man" Luker finished off well into the bottom left corner. The ref however had blown for a foul and played no advantage so a penalty kick had to be taken. Big Bad Busslin Benny Norman steped up and scored to make it 2-0. We were unfortunately over-run in the final minutes due to fatigue from lack of numbers and also due to inexperience and unfortunately went down. Keep our chins up though lads, we are improving rapidly each week! Look at how we are playing compared to the beginning of Round 1 with a team that hasn't been settled more than 1 week in a row. Well done

A1 Summary

Well done boys!!! Awesome to get another win finally, its been coming and is well deserved!!! Its great to be on the opposite side to a 3-2 score hey!! :o)

The game was defnitely decided in the first half, with scotch holding most of the meaningful possession in the forward half, with Fergie and Baard looking dangerous from the kickoff. We had a different looking line-up due to missing players for different reasons, mainly uni exams and suspensions, with Rhino going to right back and Eirik to left back to sure up the defense, where both their long ball skills and great touch were the difference a lot of the time. The opener came about 10minutes in from a stinging left foot strike from the top of the box that took a deflection into the bottom right corner from Maxie, following a blocked shot from both Baard and Fergie immediately prior that were both on target. Very soon after the score was 2-0 when Baard ran onto a free kick from the halfway line and neatly tucked the ball across the keeper on his left foot after a neat first touch. The third came about 30 minutes in when a good run up the left from Max had him cut the ball back to Baard at the top of the box, who claimed his second by hammering the ball past the keeper into the bottom right corner. 3-0! The whole first half was very good football generally, looking very strong at the back and bringing the ball out of the back with some structured possession and nice long balls.

The second half was a different story, with Scotch seemingly going to sleep for the bulk of the half. It was a far cry from the quality of Scotch play in the first half, with PAC definitely having the bulk of the half and nearly snatching a point. Both their goals came within 10 minutes of each other and were both from the penalty spot, one for obstruction and the other a very unlucky handball.

All in all a job well done though, and its now time to really astart catching up some points on the others! Thanks very much to the new boys that have come out, we really appreciate it, as we will need all the numbers we can because of people still missing due to exams etc, and also most of the Norwegian contingent going home for a few weeks back to warm and sunny Scandanavia! We'll miss you!! Hurry back!! :o)

Well well well!!!! About time!!!! :o) Well done lads, first win on the board for the year, and a very convinving one at that!! Very well deserved for continuing to improve every week and to keep fighting over the past few games when things havn't gone our way. Well done

Notable mentions need to go to Andy Dean and Quent for marshalling the defense in a very good manner, and to Jassa and Josh for playing probably your best games for the year yet from fulll back. Jassa you need to teach the rest of us how to tackle so effectively! :o) Quinny had a blinder in the middle of the park setting up lots of the attacking moves and being involved in most things, with Dayne and Harald being the difference in the first half up fron with their skill, Dayne taking two goals and Harald could have had as many if things went a little different. Well done to Chrissy for snagging a nice left foot volley after a great run from Harald for the third. A mention also needs to go to Dave in goals for pulling out a couple of top drawer saves, especially in the second half when PAC were starting to put on more pressure.

Thankyou so much for the boys that filled in to play when you weren't expecting it; Dayne, Eirik and Chris. Shows what sort of team we are to help each other out :o)

16th June 2007 - Round 9: Scotch vs Sacred Heart

A1 SUMMARY

Another dissapointing day result wise for the Scotch boys who just can't take a trick at the moment, as I feel we definitely deserved more from the game.

We made a couple of line-up changes today with Stig and Havar beginning in the back four, and Mitris and Dannyboy starting up front to try and exploit Sacred Hearts lack of pace at the back. Dietmar returned back in goals for us, and Eirik was missing due to uni exam commitments.

Things got off to a great start when with only 5 minutes gone, a through ball played by birthday-boi Johnny found Mitris at the top of the box, who then bravely slid in to knock the ball past the keeper as he was charging out. Nice goal mate! 1-0! With a start like that we then should have consolidated and controlled the game, however about 10 minutes later we went to sleep three times inside our defensive box and allowed easy balls to be played in from the left (Paps' fault!!) and conceded 3 goals in 10 minutes, 2 from headers and one from a tame shot that wasn't closed down from the penalty spot. 3-1 down just like that!

Our formation obviously wasn't working so we needed to make some changes for the second half. Dan went back into defence as we needed a little more pace at the back to help cover, and Paul and Jordan were bought on to play as a double centre-forward pairing, that I thought worked well. It will be very good when they're both 100% fit. All in all we played the better soccer in the second half, and had several good shooting chances, especially from around the box, but struggled to make the keeper work. Our goal came about 20 minutes into the second half, when a great cross from Fabs found captain John at the back post who headed strongly past the keepers feet from half a yard!! (it was probably several yards but we can't give Johnny a big head!) The birthday boy scores and we were back in it. 3-2. Unfortunately the score stayed that way but we had the majority of the attacking play for the final 30 minutes. Geordie and Mitris
played very well all day out wide and wereboth dangerous putting balls in and running at players. We look so much better when we use these two guys quickly and get balls into the box. Johnny marshalled the midfield well all day and had a series of great free kicks from distance we unfortunately couldn't get on the end of.

In the end we again are still improving weekly, and our posession and attacking play and confidence is certainly on the up very quickly. it is still our inability to keep clean sheets and defend strongly and hold our formation when we need to that is our downfall. Still plenty of time to work on that though!!

Thanks again to those that came out to watch on not the warmest day ever, and on an afternoon that seemed like we needed some lights on the pitch! We will start getting some wins on the board!!

B1 SUMMARY

What do we need to do to get a win!?!? Well, maybe not concede as many goals for a start!! :o) haha The first half was quite a good performance really, with Dayne making his return after breaking some ribs several weeks ago! Our first goal came from Will who went for a long range shot (or cross?? we'll say a shot!!) that was deflected into the back of the net from a Sacred Heart defender. This was in a 25 minute period of the first half where Scotch had nearly all possession and should have made it count on the score board a little more.

In the second half, similar to the A's match, there was a 20minute period where the defensive concentration was lost and Sacred Heart put several past us a little too easily. Andy Pandy tried to restore some fight with a good shot from about 15 yards out theat went into the top right corner.

This was definitely one of the games we really thought we could win, but it unfortunately didn't turn out that way. A big positive is that we scored a couple times in a match.

11th June 2007 - CSL Cup Round 2: Scotch A1 vs Mercedes B1

Firstly let me apologise for the length of time it has taken to get the blog organised and these reports up this week. Also sorry they're VERY short... I'll be back on it next week!!! Just ran out of a bit of time this week.

To put it simply I guess this was a match that had a bit of everything!! Incliding immense dissapointment from the Scotchie boys by the final whistle!

Mercedes went 2-0 up within 30 minutes through a cross and a forward run that were both poorly defended by the scotch midfield and defense. Atleast it finally woke us up though! It was suprising we actually got some game time up to this point and throughout the match in the midst of the referee's whislt going off non-stop to penalise fouls that we would normally be considered a fair, hard faught challenge on the ball from both teams... very annoying! And was handing out yellow cards like they were mcDonalds vouchers. Well.... handed out all yellow cards except one! yes, our MACHO captain Johnny got sent off in the 39th minute for a tackle that looked nothing more than slightly awkward! Down to 10 men. 2 minutes later Paps was brought down in the box (yes brought down... not a dive!!) and then slotted it away to make it 2-1. (And let me remind everyone who reads the blog comments that it was Paps who scored 1st out of him, Geordie and Johnny. Sorry John!) Scotch opened up strongly in the 2nd half and Jordan found himself the scorer of the second following a good run, where he then shot, the ball hitting the keeper, rebounding back onto Jordan then back off the post and into the net! Gold! 2-2 and the game was on. Mercedes went 3-2 up soon after from a poorly defended corner, but then James Catton stood up with a great header to the keepers top right from a cross of our own! 3-3 with 5 minutes remaining! Mercedes pretty much then went down the end a couple of minutes after the re-start and scored their 4th. It was tough going with 10 men but I thought Scotch did a great job holding possession, especially in the second half and the last 20 minutes mostly. It was dissapointing that we leaked a few goals from some poor positional defending, especially after we have been imporving defensively so much. Overall quite an even game possession wise , with Scotch probably having the bulk of scoring chances, especially in the last 20 minutes where we continued to bombard the Immanuel goal time after time! If only Chris or Eirik could have finished from 5 yards each!! haha Those damn defenders and posts that get in your way on the line hey!!

B1 SUMMARY

What can I say?? When you get a penalty given against us for a supposed tackle that no-one saw, not even the opposition players, you know it's not going to be your day!! Overall it was another valiant effort, but we continue to not be able to finish off good moves with a goal when it counts. The story of the year!! The performances continue to improve rapidly though, so much better is still to come I'm sure.

Thakyou to Alastair's mate Matty Lynagh who came out and played a blinder in his first soccer match in 5 years after concentrating on AFL footy.

Firstly a big thankyou to everyone that turned out for the Players and Partners night at the Ed last night, it was a great night and was awesome to get 40 of us there. Great kangaroo Johnny!! I think best dressed has to go to Chris and his 1920's mafia trench coat, I was looking over my shoulder all night making sure he wasn't about to pull a gun out, or that he wasn't flashing someone!! Everyone looked great, well apart from Geordie and his white belt, and I thought it was an excellent chance to get to know each other better and get the social side to our team moving on the up aswell. Thanks to all the girls that came... sorry if a lot of the talk was on football!!!

We will organise another night and something a little different in around 6 weeks or so. Any ideas for a good night???

A1 SUMMARY

Overall it was a very dissapointing day score wise, because we definitely deserved something from the match and certainly had the majority of scoring chances, with Fergie having a couple of narrow misses, Eirik hitting the post twice (should have done better!!! haha), Paps missing a couple he should have done better with and Mitris and Geordie putting on lots of pressure in the box from out wide. The last 20 minutes especially was all scotch pressure and we were unlucky not to get some sort of result. It was a close fought match for the entirity and played in tough but good spirits, on a pitch I'm glad we don't have as a home ground now as its half mud!

Pleasing aspects are that we are looking much tighter at the back than in earlier rounds, and we are beginning to play much better through the midfield and wings. All we need is a natural centre forward that can play every game!! Dustie!!?? Baard!!?? :o)

Overall everyone played very well, including Paul and Joel who came off of the bench and gave us a lot of momentum going forward and allowed us to make a couple of formation changes. It was hard to pick votes as everyione was quite even, especially considering the conditions, but here's the top 3 due to their dominance of their respective positions on the day.

B1 SUMMARY

Well we are getting closer!! And what could have been hey!? Thanks to a great kick out from Dave that ran onto our latest Norwegian recruit Lars, who controlled the ball very well, ran with it then slotted it into the back of the onion bag to the keepers top left corner, we were 1-0 up within 20 minutes!! Unfortunately Uni White scored three times after that and deserved the win, but we are still improving every week, and when we can finally get a settled line-up we may see some results. Playing much better though!! We also welcome into the side, aswell as Lars, another old-collegian Alex Greville.

A1 SUMMARY

Our first league win!! Well done boys!! Its about time, and very much deserved! Here we come now!.....

Into the side today came Dustie McGregor to play up front, an ex Adelaide City player, so it was great to have him out! Thanks mate! And of course he was going to be influential later on in the game!

The game started well on a beautiful sunny day (maybe even a little too hot for the poor little poms Geordie and Johnny!). We took the lead a short way into the first half after Johnny put a great ball over the top to Paps who crossed first time from wide left (a great ball by me I might add if I don't say so myself!!! haha) to find Dustie inside the 6 yard box who cooly chested (yes chested, not headed!) the ball past the keeper. 1-0, great start! We had most of the play for the next 20 minutes, with Fergie and Eirik controlling the middle of the park with much improving possession between the midfield, and our back-four looking very strong. Geordie and Mitris were both in the game out wide and looking dangerous, with Dustie using his causing trouble up front. The score then suddenly went 1-1 when after Dietmar had just made a couple very strong saves, was beaten by a tame header from a cross that took a big deflection on the bounce just before him. For the remainder of the half the game was quite even, until Fergie unleashed one of his trademark left foot crackers from about 25 yards, with the ball taking a deflection off the back of one of the CBC defenders to wrong foot the keeper, who watched the ball sail past his left shoulder into the back of the net. 2-1!! (are you sure you arn't a leftie Fergie!!??). It was a great way to go into half time.

CBC came from behing again to level the score early in the second half following a good passage of play down the right and a clinical finish past Dietmar. The rest of the half was quite even in posession, but with Scotch having the bulk of the chances. We had several free kicks in danerous areas but iunfortunately couldn't make the most of them, and there was plenty of strong tackles being dished out from both teams, especially in the nidfield. Good to see us get a bit more fight into our game, especially considering we are a smaller team than most!! (I'll teach you the head-butt during the week!! haha) Dietmar kept us in the game as usual with a couple top saves, and coming off his line exceptionally quickly. Dan, Joel and Paul came off of the bench throughout the 2nd half and all added a lot of extra run and pace to our game. The last 20 minutes was very open with both teams pushing hard for the winner. With only a couple of minutes to go, Dustie pulled one out of his top drawer with a right foot curler (I thought left footers could only use their right foot for standing on!! :o) ) into the top right corner from about 25 yards. Cracker!! 3-2 and the first league win under our belt!!! Great way to do it!

Overall it was good game for us, as we are improving heaps every week with our team work and organisation and being able to keep possession for longer, which is very pleasing. We still have so much potential left in us when we get more games under our belt together and are more comfortble with each others games. I think we definitely have the potential to be a top 5 side this year.

Thanks again to family members and friends that come out to watch!! It's very appreciated considering the game can get pretty scrappy at times!! Thanks :o)

B1 SUMMARY

Unfortunately it was again a dissapointing day for the B's, who had one of their strongest line-ups for the year. The opening 30 minutes of the game was all Scotch, with several very good chances falling to us but we were unable to take them which proved to be the difference in the match. With basically their 1st proper attack of the match, CBC got their first goal from a poorly cleared ball that was punished with a great shot from the top of the box. For the majority of the game it was very even, with the Scotch holding much more posession than previous games. Two more goals were scored in the 2nd half as we tired. Again, our game is definitely improving week by week as we get some games under us and a little experience to a lot of the youg guys. All we need is a win to get our confidence up!!! It will definitely come, and boy will we all celebrate it when it does!! Look forward to it!

A1 SUMMARY

Well isn't it about time!! :o) Well done boys!! we got our first win for the season.... its on now!

The first round of the 2007 CSL Cup had us drawn against the B1's top side, Rostrevor. From a couple of weeks ago when we played Rostrevor we knew we would have to be on top of our game as their B side is a strong combination.

Absentees from our line-up today included Eirik (who had El Presidente of the Norwegian Day Organising Committee duties... soft!) and Dietmar (work and sore legs from so many goal kicks last week!!). We welcomed back into the side the dynamic Norwegian duo of Stig and Baard, who would later have great impact on the game. We again lined up with a 4-5-1 formation, that I think will now suit us much better, with Baard at striker, Mitris wide left, Geordie wide right, Fergie, Patty and Paps in the middle, and Fabs, Chris, Johnny and Stig holding a strong back four. It worked very well.

It was an eventful 1st half, with midfield maestro Patty pulling his hamstring within the first 1 second (maybe 3 minutes), and his replacement Dayne then copping a vicious ball the the face and being concussed and sore-nosed! Oh yeah... and we scored two ripper goals!! The first was following great play down the left from the Frenchman Fabs, who after a storming run put a ball into the box towards our super-striker (who puts fear into defenders!!!) Baard, who miraculously took one touch off his chest then 1st time bicycle-volleyed it into the top left corner from 12 yards! If only we had a video camera! Certainly one to remember!!! 1-0. The second goal again came from the left with a great '1-2' played between Mitris and Baard, with Mitris then finishing with a thunderous shot from a tight angle just inside the box across the keeper. 2-0 and two fine strikes! For the 1st half we had most of the possession and control of the game with Geordie and Mitris controlling the flanks and putting in dangerous balls, Baard running very hard and creating havoc up front with his great ball skills and pace, our midfield taking the line share of possession in the middle of the park, and our back four looking controlled and untroubled.

Our third goal came midway into the second half when the game had opened up quite a bit, with Johnny and Fergie playing a couple of good return passes between each other, with Johnny then slotting through a "world-class"!! clinical diagonal ball through to split the defence and find Baard who hammered it past the keeper to give himself a well-deserved double. There were plenty more chances for us to get some more goals of we could finish a little better. Rostrevor's two goals came from a sloppy header from a corner that was poorly defended in the first place, and from an unfortunate hand ball in our defensive area to give them a penalty.

Over-all it was a good win to get and hopefully gets the ball rolling with regards to the next few weeks of fixtures with the "must-win" games. There are plenty of positives from the game that we will definitely take out.

Great to snag our first win!! Oh yeah... and HAPPY NORWEGIAN DAY to half of our team!!!

It was easily the worst team to draw in the 1st round of the cup, Mercedes A1, who are no doubt the stand out team thus far in the entire competition. In a one sided game, Scotchies B1 did very well to have as much posession as they did, and were unlucky not to snag a goal or two!

Thank you to everyone for trying so hard and keeping their heads up, it is a testament to our player group and we showed great fight for a very young and extremely inexperienced team.

Chin up boys!!! Things will turn!

12th May 2007 - Round 5: Scotch vs Mercedes

A1 SUMMARY

I guess we all knew that the game was going to be extremely tough and that we'd be up against it all day before the whistle had even blew. Mercedes were top of the table, had not conceded a goal yet in their 2007 campaign and are by far the banchmark in the Collegiate League A1's.

We changed formation for the game from a 4-4-2 to a 4-5-1 in the hope it would help us absorb pressure better then counter attack when able. Due to asevere lack of numbers of players in both squads for the game, Andy Dean and Dayne played the 2nd half of the B's then had to start in the A's, with Dayne carrying an unstable ankle anyway. Well done boys, you did really well and we all appreciate it!!!

Two new recruits to the club in the last couple of weeks had their 1st start in the A's today. One is very talented midfielder (although played up front for the game!!) Patty McConville (unfortunately he is an avid Celtic supported though), and new goal keeper Dietmar who has a very good football resume with time spent with Adelaide City in the old NSL, and highest level south australian federation. We appreciate him coming out to help boulster the squad in his so called 'year off'...he just couldnt resist playing with us!! :) And what a baptism of fire it was for him to begin with! Another new recruit that came off of the bench after playing a full game of B's and testing his fitness after three years of not playing, is Paul Cadman, formally of Birkella in the SASF, and who will no doubt be very important to the A's throughout the year if he decides to stay!!

The game had been changed midweek from Mercedes to Scotch due to their pitch being unsuitable. Everyone was OK with this and managed to handle the change of location.... apart from the Ref's though who didn't show for either game!!! Always knew you can't trust them!!

The game began OK for us, absorbing pressure and having our own share of confident possession. Throughout the 1st half however they struck home two lucky goals from defensive errors and we were our own worst enemies again as in previous weeks. Throughout the course of the game we spent a lot of time behind the ball, chasing and defending against a team that didn't seem to have a player ubder 6 foot, under 85kg, or that wouldn't be able to hold their spot in any federation team in the state!! We were basically outplayed throughout the entire 90 minutes, with the most dissapointing aspect of the day being our inability to stay disciplined and hold shape, and the lack of physical fight we showed. I understant being so undermanned didn't help the situation at all! As we tired throughout the course of the second half they put another four goals past us.

Of very positive note however were several performances. Chris Rogers played a wonderful game in the heart of defence where we need him for both his skill and physical presence, although being up against it all day. Dietmar pulled out a number of very tough saves and stopped us from being embarrased any further!! Thanks mate! Our midfield tired throughout the match, but we did have some positives with the play between Johnny and Eirik, and they did get some extra fitness!! Keep running boys!!! :) Patty played very well in a tough lone role up front against a very tough opposition defence adn had an immense work ethic all day. Well done mate!

We have now played the top three teams in our opening rounds, so the next month or so of football is going to be very important as we need to pick up all available points againts teams of similar standard to ours, starting this week in the 1st round of the Collegiate Cup. It is vital that we work even harder now on our game as a team, that we stick together and support each other both on the pitch and socially, otherwise we will not improve and grow in the competition. With everyone available we have a fantastic team and results will come!!!

B1 SUMMARY

Scotchies B's should again hold their heads up very high! Playing with a very makeshift, undermanned and inexperienced line-up, it was always going to be very tough to get anything out of the game. Into the team today came new recruit Paul Cadman who had his first taste of football in three years and ran his guts out, playing very well in the middle of the park. We also had Quentin Crouch, one of the origional Scotch boys returning to the club after two years away overseas. He brought with him from his travels one of our best mates Matty Luker (normally an AFL maestro!!) out to help with numbers and to get his first game of ''real football''!!! Both had very good games considering their lack of sport in the last couple of years, and Matty could have even scored a ripper in his 1st match if the football Gods had been smiling on us a little more, with the keeper pulling out a great save. He left the GLORY!!! of the 1st B's player to score this year to our number 10 mean machine Chien-wen Liew, who hammered the ball into the back of the onion bag half way through the second half for our 1st goal of the season! GGGGOOOOAAAAALLLLLL!!!!!! Plenty more to come now boys!

Again a dissaponting result of course, but with the elements against us there we need to take out the positives like we have!!

Did I mention we scored our 1st goal??!! Yeheeeeeeeeeeeew!!!!!!!!

5th May 2007 - Round 4: Scotch vs Rostrevor

A1 SUMMARY

The opening home game for the year on a perfect surface started at a good pace and Scotch had most of the play and all of the shots in the opening 20 minutes. We welcomed into the A's toady another Norwegian superstriker, Baard Kristiansen, and Dave Lonardo had his first start in goal. defence with a great ground pass to Eirik and Dayne were looking menacing from the outset and stretching the Rostrevor defence, with good lead up play through central midfield. It was excellent to see how effective our possession game plan can be when we all work hard towards it. Our possession paid off at the 15 minute mark when Dayne sent a rocket into the top left corner of the onion bag following a good ball from Geordie on the right who found Eirik, who's one touch pass into Dayne's path created the opportunity. 1-0! It was just deserves. Five minutes later Fergie Ferg sliced the RostrevorEirik who was then clumsily brought down 22yards from goal by Rostrevor's last man when it was a 1-on-1 with the keeper. A red card was shown and Rostrevor were now down to 10 men. Eirik then stepped up and classily converted the resulting free kick with a thunderous shot to the keepers right, with thanks also going to Geordie for his bullying work on the end of the Rostrevor wall!! 2-0!! Things were looking good and we had complete control of the game. But oh how quick things can change!

Another 5 minutes later, and quickly bringing them back into the game, Rostrevor scored following a poorly cleared corner that fell invitingly at the top of the box for a shot that somehow crept inside the far post. 2-1. The rest of the first half was quite even, with Rostrevor slowly taking assendency on the midfield. The game was marred by several sloppy challenges by the ROCSC boys and as many yellow cards. The score at half time was 2-1.

Overall the 2nd half was a very poor midfield and defensive display by Scotch, who let in another 4 goals all through open play!! We were unable to keep meaningful possession and control the game with the extra man and lacked defensive and deep midfield shape. It was a disappointing way to finish a promising match, but we will work hard on our formation and game play. But chins-up!! There's much better to come!!

B1 SUMMARY

and What more do we need to do to score!!?? Today Scotchies B's came up against one of the strongest teams in the competition, and should hold their heads very high! Things may have been very different if one of a couple of early chances were taken by scotch, but again goals were very hard to score!! In an excellent overall effort, the very inexperienced and newly formed Scotch had much of the first half play, and had vast improvements from the previous game, especially defensively. New recruits to the days team included the dynamic Norwegian duo StigHavar, and Canadian Ruy. We really are multi-cultural now!!! The game was only killed off in the final 20 minutes when Scotch tired considerably due to some inexperience and weight of defensive duties throughout the day. Big improvers continue to be Josh and Jassa, and Andy Dean marshaled the troops at the back very well. Stig and Havar tired as expected but played very well, and we expect big things from them now!!

Again overall the result was disappointing, but if we continue to improve the way we are and get a stable line-up, the goals and results will slowly come!!

A1 Summary

Well, let me start by reminding you of the Arsenal vs PSV 2nd leg Champions League match a few weeks ago, where Arsenal had total domination of the entire game and over 30 shots for no goals. Today, we were Arsenal!!! Apart from the fact at least we scored one goal, that we didn't get knocked out of the Champions League, and that we're probably got a little more depth than the Gunners anyway!

The game was a Scotch home game, but due to our immaculate pitch still being unavailable, was played at Grads Red's home ground, at the Adelaide Uni parklands in the city.

The game started at a great pace for a Collegiate League game and Scotch had all the running right from the first kick off. Due to a couple of late arrivals, SUPER-FIT Alasdair Rodgers and Joel Quinn had to back up a full B's game by starting in the A's also, and did very well! Quinny had an early chance go just wide from a stinging shot, with another couple of chances falling to Dane who shot narrowly wide from distance, and Danny Adams was almost on the score sheet following a great solo fun from centre back. But, as would be the rest of the day, these chances somehow just missed or were parried away by a rather lucky keeper! However, around the 25 minute mark, Scotch got on the board for a deserved goal and the first for the club in A1 competition! Following some constant forward pressure and shooting from our attacking midfield maestro Fergie Ferg, the ball fell for our new Norwegian "Super-Signing" Eirik Sandvik to calmly slot the ball past the keeper from 6yards at his near post! GOAL!!

The remainder of the first half had the ball firmly planted in Scotches offensive half with attack after attack, where the posts and crossbar were both tested a couple of times each and several more shots that would have left the rather flat-footed keeper's hands stinging. It was turning into one of those days where each shot somehow either found some way of hitting the frame, narrowly missing or being put straight to the keeper. No exaggeration!! Anyway at half time it had been a one sided game and we would have been excused for thinking that we were going to put the ball into the back of the onion sack few more times.

The second half was much more of the same with possession predominantly held by scotch, and several more chances going begging and being wasted. With 70 minutes gone, and the game should have been sewn up much earlier, the inevitable happened of course!! The score was levelled with one of the few decent attacking runs Grads Red put together coming on from the left flank, that was finished with a great strike from 20 yards to beat Ravo and make it 1-1.

The game was again finished with Scotch doing the bulk of the attacking, but unfortunately not being able to score that elusive 2nd goal.

Silky smooth Waz and Auzzie-born Englishman Geordie both had great attacking games at wide midfield, with Waz treating us to some wonderful Christiano Ronaldo like step-overs, and the super-strong central defensive duo of Chrissy Rogers and Dr Danny Adams were well organised and hardly tested all day. Our highly anticipated French summer signing Fabs had another good game at left back in only his 2nd game of outdoor football ever. Eirik and Dane were menacing and dangerous all day up front, and Fergs was his usual elusive and dangerous self at attacking mid.

However, in the eyes of both myself and the umpire (who had a severe lack of understanding of the 'advantage' rule and a scary pettiness for 'shirts-in' and politeness on the pitch) gave 3 votes to Mr El Capitano John McQueen for his leadership on pitch, constructive talk, overlapping runs from right back and long raking balls cross pitch.

Anyway, although a disappointing result for what could have been, it was a much improved display from the previous week with regards to possession, build-up play and organisation. With a couple more summer signings still to grace the club and hopefully some improved attendances at training, watch out league!!!

14th April 2007 - Round 1: Scotch vs. Pembroke

A's game summary

A tough 1st match played against last year's A1 3rd place-getters meant that we were down early in the match before really finding our feet. Defensive mistakes by Scotch were punished with aplomb by the Pembroke attack, with a couple of diagonal passes splitting our last line and leaving first-time keeper Lachlan Ravescroft with some tough 1-on-1s with a particularly skilled Pembroke striker. This was compounded by our general disarray, with players neither providing options off the ball nor looking for them on the ball. It wasn't until 2/3 of the way through the 2nd half that we started holding possession and stringing passes together.

Despite being down 0-4 at half time, it was a different side which fronted Pembroke for the second 45 minutes. Play was distributed more evenly and we used Mitris and Geordie much better down the wings. We still struggled to put boot to ball in the Pembroke area; Fergie being the only player to post a shot on-target for the length of the match. In the end, Pembroke did well to hold us to nil - Paps being denied from the penalty spot through an unbelievable full-stretch save by the Pembroke keeper after a late challenge inside 18 yards.

In the end, it was a hard-fought game, only made harder to bear with such a one-sided scoreline. Although it was a comprehensive routing, we can take solace from a much improved performance during the course of the game, and the knowledge that 3 Pembroke goals were scored on the back of first-game jitters amongst the defence and midfield of our squad.
